Fall for Fimbel Finishing

For nearly a century, our family has manufactured garage doors, and in that time, we have learned a great deal about the industry through our partners, products, and passions. Today, we
are proud to package with our environmentally friendly garage doors a paint and faux stain coating that will endure the elements using molecular bonded paint to stand the test of time.

Using D200 High performance finish with our proprietary system, all Factory Finished products will be delivered with a clean finish to last! While most of our products do not require finishing
and may remain natural white Versatex, adding color to your project can add the wow-factor that we are after! Our vast and ever-expanding color palette includes blacks, charcoals, and dark
greens as well as faux stains to truly replicate the look of wood without the maintenance. With solutions for replacement of damaged sections to black paint in tough exposures, we are sure
our finishing options will satisfy you with beauty and durability!

Almost as many colors as the Fall Foliage

The finishing program offers myriad options to satisfy the needs of your project. From solid colors covering the entire door or perhaps used in a two-tone application, we offer custom color matching in addition to our extensive standard offerings.

The magic of this paint system is the versatility to allow us to create our faux stain! Using a two part process of the same paint we use to coat our doors, our team of Artisans use their trained
hands to apply first the grain design and then the top coat offering the final overall richness of color. The result of this process allows us to increase grain depth or decrease it as needed as well as custom color match to your desired finish.

Love in Every Door!

Fimbel doors are hand crafted and every detail perfected from our patented construction through the processes all the way to our logistics operations, so it's no doubt we apply this
same level of quality to our finishing. You can count on an Architectural coating with a cabinet finish unseen in other exterior applications. The detail applied to the multiple applications to
achieve this look is engineered for the strongest adhesion and cleanest finish.

We know that vinyl garage doors tend to respond adversely to the extreme temperature and weather conditions they face. This began as an obstacle that has since turned into an
opportunity. While our VERSATEX PVC doors are crafted to remain in their natural white, we found a solution to the projects requiring dark colors in tough exposures. Using Tricoya and our
proprietary finish system, we have not yet found a stain or a color request we couldn't satisfy!

Spring Cleaning and Care

blog-feature---spring-clean-1

When we build, we build for beauty and durability that will last because we care about your satisfaction as well as our environment. From our processes to our products, we reduce, reuse, and recycle everything we can. We run on solar, and we love to help reduce your overall maintenance efforts and costs. This all speaks to our desire to provide a durable and sustainable solution with virtually no maintenance.

Despite our efforts, garage doors pose a threat to all when they aren't properly maintained. The International Door Association made several recommendations that can help provide safety year over year. Please refer to their checklist for the full list of suggested items to be on the lookout for and do seek out a reliable, professional technician to help you with the maintenance.

Find a Professional Technician

In our organization, safety must be the first priority. The first and most important aspect of maintaining your garage door is to understand what you, the homeowner, should keep an eye on and what you should rely on a trained professional to handle.

Professional maintenance should be done regularly and will include comprehensive checks of the rollers and hinges, motor, weather seal, cables, track, and most importantly – the springs. Choosing to tackle these aspects of the door may seem easy enough, but a trained professional is necessary for your benefit and safety. Please visit our dealer locator to find our partners.

Home Maintenance List

Second to safety, we value quality at Fimbel ADS. We believe in regular preventative maintenance to ensure quality, and we believe you should regularly check your door to avoid costly and dangerous situations. Listening and paying attention to the garage door may prevent issues.

Regularly check the mechanisms of the door to be sure they have adequate lubrication to allow the system to glide through the tracks. Lubricate all moving parts (metallic) using non-greasy, non-silicone-based garage door lubricant. If the movement of the sections becomes stiff and begins to make a squeaking sound, they may need oil. Be sure not to oil the tracks, overoil the parts, and subsequently collect residue and debris. You can also check your photo-eyes to be sure the trip sensor is connected. Beyond that - we highly recommend reaching out to your Professional Technician.

How it's Made Matters

We believe the little-to-no-maintenance solution is a garage door made with our vinyl material and our vinyl clad-steel; however, we also believe in given you all the information you need to make the right choice, so here's a rundown of some other products:

Basic steel doors do not require much maintenance, but they also tend to live a short life before looking weathered and worn. In contrast, wood doors will last a long time in the right environment, but they require a great deal of maintenance. Maintaining a wood door requires regular cleaning of the exterior to prolong the life of the wood and stain. The finish on your wood door should be inspected no less than every 12 months, and more frequently if the wood door is exposed to direct sunlight (facing south, southeast, or south west) or harsh weather conditions are present. About every 2-3 years it is recommended to sand and reapply a clear topcoat your wood doors with the paint or stain of your choice. Prior to refinishing, you will need to use wood filler to cover any cracks or blemishes and allow it to dry. Sand the door with the grain and with gentle pressure. Allow adequate dry time between each application and be sure to tape off windows and decorative hardware.

We know your time is precious - our only non-renewable asset, so we proudly offer options that will satisfy your lifestyle while sustaining our love of Mother Earth. The time, the resources, the chemicals, and so much more all take from or pollute something we love.

Keep it Beautiful with Vinyl

For our naturally white, vinyl doors, you can expect a lifetime of low maintenance pleasure. Using VERSATEX Building Products, we share a passion for the way we operate with respect for our planet, our product, and our partners. The solid, smooth vinyl material provides the incredible look of wood without the stress.

Similarly, our vast and varied factory finish and faux stain finish, you can count on a warm water rinse here and a little soap there to keep your door beautiful. For our factory finished doors, we use Tricoya which is a composite wood that was made to sustain and perform. We chose to partner with a paint and faux stain manufacturer, AquaSur Tech, not only for their commitment to sustainability but also because they offer an array of colors and a solid warranty against fading thanks to their innovative heat reflective pigments which allow us to bring dark colors to your door no matter the exposure.

Once our factory finish is applied to this material, the pair is ready to impress and endure with limited maintenance over time. The result is a cabinet-like finish on an exterior product. The result is stunning and enduring.

Fimbel Keeps it Easy

To ensure years of trouble-free performance, the face and edges of your vinyl sections are UV-resistant and may be left in their natural, unfinished white color. This technology allows the material of your door to remain in its natural, unfinished state. You can expect a lifetime of ease. No need to repeatedly refinish. You can repair many dents and dings due to our advanced material, VERSATEX. And you can count on the quality and beauty of our doors.

For general situations:

  • Use warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid soap, such as Dawn or Joy. Mr. Clean Erasers also work very well.
  • Gently remove dirt and debris with soap, water, and a sponge or soft cloth.
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

For more stubborn situations:

  • After rinsing thoroughly, Soft Scrub, Clorox Cleanup, or Clorox Outdoors can be used. Mr. Clean Erasers using a gentle hand also work very well. Avoid abrasives.
  • The door surface can be wiped with isopropyl or denatured alcohol to remove any soap, cleaner residue, or dust.
    • Apply spray gently
    • Avoid pooling of the alcohol in the seam of the overlays

For dents, dings, and deep scratches: please contact your dealer.

  • DO NOT use solutions containing acid or solvents like MEK, acetone, or Toluene.
  • DO NOT use Simple Green, as it may yellow the face of your door.
  • DO NOT use abrasives.
  • DO NOT use a power washer to remove dirt or stains from the door.
  • DO NOT use heat* or induce heat when field cleaning. Heat guns, heat lamps, and heaters could cause damage and may void your warranty (*heat guns MAY be used by a Professional Technician on some parts and some dents/dings to the VERSATEX - consult your dealer).
  • DO NOT was your Factory Finished door within 30 days of production as the paint needs time to cure.

The final tip is this: DO NOT sell yourself short on your garage door. You deserve to have a beautiful, low-maintenance door that will welcome you home each and every time with a smile and peace of mind. When you find that door, keep it safe by following the suggested maintenance and care!

If you have any questions about cleaning and caring for your door, please feel free to reach out! We do our best to make it easy for you because we want you to relax and celebrate your independence. We know the pride of being a 4th Generation American Manufacturer, and we are proud to bring you more in a garage door!

2021 Exterior Color Trends

Feature-Image---2021-color

Out with the old...in with the new!

It's 2021, and we are all a little excited to put 2020 behind us; however, we learned a lot during this wildly unprecedented year that shouldn't go without mention. One critical truth is how important it is for our homes to be a place of comfort, safety, and joy.

As the pandemic landed upon us, we realized our home renovation projects were no longer something to do when we found the time but rather something critical for our new at-home lifestyle. With a 95% return on investment at resale (Cost vs. Value Report), we know for sure the value of a quality garage door to the homeowner, and we are here to help with your garage renovation project. The relationship we share with our homes has changed, and we want you to be wholly satisfied.

In the recent blog post by Brick & Batten titled "21 Prediction for 2021 in Exterior Home Design, the author, Tessa, put "Statement Garage Doors" in the #1 spot. She anticipates "homeowners swapping out boring ones for beautiful ones", and we couldn't agree more. She elaborates to complement the beauty of wood doors but advises that, "we highly suggest reaching for imitation wood rather than the real stuff to lower future maintenance efforts." Again, we couldn't agree more, and we have the right material and design capabilities to add the referred to "Statement" to your home.

Color Trends for 2021

We don't claim to be color experts for your exterior renovation project, so we get to lean on the true color experts, such as the Home Depot paint brand, Behr, for their vision of what's to come.

Set to trend this year are the natural, more calming colors such as Behr's Weathered Moss and Cottage White to counteract the chaos of the previous year, but we will still see the darker Midnight Blue and Liquid Mercury adding strength and depth to the upcoming color palatte. Because we all need to have a little fun, Behr's Tornado Season teal is trending as a choice for the home's siding, so keeping your garage door natural, Versatex white will complement the home's vibrant color.

Behr's Exterior Color Collection offers some insights to complement the style of your home with the suggested color palettes presented in the brochure here. For the 'American Casual' style for your farmhouse, cottage, or coastal home, they offer a palette of "soft yet strong pastels", such as Weathered Moss, White, and Little Sun Dress, to complement the natural comfort of the style.

For 'Timeless Appeal' on a Colonial or Tudor home, they suggest the use of 'tradition and elegance [to] define the classic color palette for these dignified homes" such as the combination of Sugar Beet, Swiss Coffee, and Adirondack Blue for a twist on the patriotic red, white, and blue we all admire.

Behr's 'Modern Views' approach to contemporary and mid-century homes offers solutions whose "streamlined sensibility and design support a palette of neutrals with brilliant accents." In this scenario, adding the right pop of color, such as Soft Boiled, to the entry door and Silver Marlin to the garage while Wood Ash covers the home will leave you and your visitors feeling inspired.

Finally they offer popular and trending options for the 'Refined Craft' of your ranch, craftsman, and bungalow style home. "The classic details that adorn these homes stand out when painted with organic, natural hues" such as the subtle, earthen combination of Incognito, Sandstorm, and Havana Coffee.

Before you Commit

A few things to consider as you finalize your color decision (from our previous Blog called "Opening Doors to Color Your World"):

  1. Your entry door is the focal point of your home. You do not have to match it! Do your best to complement it. Focus on matching the quality and design not the color.
  2. The garage door color works best on many homes when it is coordinated to the details of the home: the siding, the windows, the trim.
  3. If the overall design of the home is unique, we invite to think beyond standard doors and make it your own.
  4. While the garage can consume 30% of a home's frontage, the garage door should add to the overall feel - not stick out like a sore thumb. We offer a lot of options to make it unique without making it outlandish!
  5. Be sure you understand the material of the garage door. We know that vinyl can respond to extreme temperatures unfavorably when in dark colors. Be sure you have the right paint product on the right material (again, no worries here for us, because we offer you more).
  6. If you cannot decide on a color, a natural white finish is a tried and true solution! With our product and our ability to offer you the DIY kits, so you can change your mind down the road.
  7. Do you plan to sell your home anytime soon? If so, consider what a potential buyer might want for their garage door! In this case, purchasing a garage door with the after factory option of our DIY kits may be the solution.

Why Replace the Garage Door

The most obvious reason to replace your garage door is to improve the curb appeal of the home. The term applies to the aesthetic appeal of a residential or commercial building as perceived from the street, and it was made popular in the 90's with the release of HGTV's show "Curb Appeal". As you may know, the entry door of most homes only constitutes 8% of the home's frontage while the garage door often consumes 30%, we can see the potential for impact with a new door. With the impressive ROI, utilizing the capabilities we offer through our manufacturing as well as additional options such as finishing and hardware, updating the garage door is a slam dunk! To learn more about designing like an architect, please enjoy the attached blog post where we take you through the process!

We manufacture our doors using smooth, solid Versatex for our unfinished doors and innovative, durable Tricoya for our factory finished products. For the factory finished doors, we use AquaSurTech paint products for not only their quality finish but their durability and commitment to the planet. We are pleased to offer this to you in virtually any custom color and faux stain.

Fimbel doors offer you a low-maintenance lifestyle. The clean appearance of the door should last for years to come with a gentle clean with mild soap and water. No harsh abrasives or undue elbow grease necessary.

Fimbel doors are manufactured to be safety first. You, your family, your home, and your belongings will rest safely behind our door. Our doors are engineered for durability! We know that poorly fitted doors are not only unsightly but also allow unwanted openings. Since we can match nearly any opening, weather, burglars, and bugs will not have access to your home through the garage door, and our energy efficient construction allows you to conserve on financial costs and increase comfort!

Now What?

So you have some ideas and perhaps some questions. Fantastic! The goal here at Fimbel is to invite you to think beyond a basic, standard door and consider what design inspiration may be lurking. Your result may be a beautiful white garage door, or you may just find a gray or blue to highlight your life! In either case, we are here to help:

Tips for Garage Organization

blog-cover-image---organization

2020 has certainly taught us the value of our space - for better or for worse. As quarantine set in and the walls became a little closer and the delivery boxes piled higher, the valuable real estate in the garage became precious. For many the garage tends to act as a collection and storage unit which is great, but the garage is indeed intended for parking vehicles. Don't endure another winter parking the car outside the comfort of the garage.

Below are some simple tips to support your project of reclaiming the garage in a way that will last with limited maintenance year after year. Just like our doors, we want you to enjoy life in a low-maintenance, quality way.

Sort and redistribute:
At first glance, it likely looks daunting to have piles and collections of your life and lifestyle accumulating in the garage, but as with all things large, take it one step at a time. Consider this an opportunity to move the overwhelm of your garage out once and for all. Take a deep breath and begin to address all items in the garage with a new set of eyes. For this phase, you will organize by value by assigning the item in one of three categories:

Discard:

Remove the riff-raff. Yes - you have riff-raff. Identify trash and recycling and remove it immediately. The added space will be rewarding and allow for additional organizing. Let it go!

Donate (or sell):

We know you love the bikes your three kids first learned to pedal a bike on, but do you need to keep them? It is likely your garage is full of items you love that you will never again use. Find a local charity to donate or try your hand at selling independently. The key here is to follow through. Don't decide to sell your items and never take the time to list them. The object is to create more space for you today. If you aren't using it and others will, let it go.

Displace:

Is the garage storing family keepsakes that may be best stored in the attic? Do you have items you borrowed from a neighbor and neglected to return? Where all of this remains is up to you. Just because you CAN store it in the garage doesn't mean it belongs there. Let it go!

Are you singing Frozen now, too? Keep singing and know that the cold is upon us, and this effort will be worth it!

Cluster
Now that the floor of the garage can be seen, it is time to sort and organize by category and purpose. Identify items that are similar and different, and then physically pick them up and put them with items that fulfil the same purpose or require a particular storage need.

For example, it would be helpful to cluster chemicals away from paints and lawn/garden tools away from children's sports equipment. Consider each cluster with a lense of safety first and then purpose second. Let your lifestyle and demands drive the organizing.

This phase is key to sustainability. Get this right, and you get the next step right which leads to a plan that will work year after year.

Visualize
Create your vision - the one where you are moving and functioning in your garage with ease. Consider which categories need to be most accessible to the door of the home and which would have less need for easy access. There are many things here to consider. Some people love to keep garbage bin right by the door for easy access while others want to keep any aromas farther away. Does your garage vision allow the car(s) to enter easily and move in and out of the doors? Be sure there is space for safety and comfort. For those with kids, considering how they will access each item is critical. Putting a toy too high for them to reach leaves the item unused or causes more work for you, so strategy ahead of time allows for peace of mind later!
The old adage in the building industry is 'measure twice and cut once". This is very important at this phase. Take clear and comprehensive measurements of the space and the demand of your clustered items. Measure to be sure your concepts will fit and take good notes to be sure you get the right materials.

Implement
Using the measurements and visualized plan, identify the needed components for the storage systems. Our Pinterest page has a lot of ideas for garage organization on this link. From freestanding storage shelves that will evolve with you over time to mounted storage shelves that allow you so many opportunities and configurations to storage bins that seem to make any mess manageable, your solutions are out there.

We know it is fun to go shopping, and we hope you enjoy it, but be sure to choose items that you can maintain the vision. It is our experience that building smart systems around business and life allow for sustainability and satisfaction. For example, if you collect muddy shoes in a bin, you might select a container without a lid to allow your family to simply toss them in without effort. If there is a lid, the muddy shoes may not make it in.

Once you have identified the needed storage supplies. It may be necessary to schedule time to make this happen because being busy seems to be a way of life. Now that the hard work has been done, the fun can happen. Set up your shelves and systems and bring your organized garage to life.

Protect
Once you have brought this project to its close, be sure that you have the right door(s) to protect your possessions. Weather tight seals will keep out the elements and unwanted little visitors (critters). Insulated sections will offer not only support for climate controlled garages but also reduce noise going in and coming out. R-value helps to manage the balance of the garage's environment.

Why Fimbel
All of this points to a Fimbel door. Fimbel is about sustainability. From the materials we choose to the culture we create to the operations that guide our practices, we want to bring you quality that endures for the next generation. We run on solar and plant a tree for every door sold, so we know are dedicated to making life work for all.
