Roaring Twenties Revealed

blog-feature---Roaring-Twenties

At Fimbel ADS, we believe in offering your more in your garage door. We aspire to bring options to fully complement your project and satisfy your every need. The classic American carriage door comes to life with the Fimbel Roaring Twenties series. With its simulated battens, clean cut overlays, and the look of a swing door, it makes any project feel like home. The smart period detail combined with our advanced materials allow you to enjoy the look of wood with virtually no maintenance. Using patented construction and design flexibility, we offer nearly any combination of window and door styles. Roaring Twenties collection blends both tradition and innovation to welcome you home with a beautiful and durable door to stand the test of time.

The first step in navigating our product offerings is to understand that we make our doors in two innovative ways to offer a vast variety of styles and solutions. When buying a Fimbel door, you can count on the look of real wood, durable construction methods, low-maintenance, precision fit, bold windows, reliable R-value, and more, more, more!

Our first construction platform offers carriage and traditional styles using a vinyl clad steel pan and applying vinyl overlays to create the look of a classic wood door. This door is exceptional for two main reasons – the first is the platform (pan) made of a smooth, steel base made for the elements that we coat (clad) in a thin layer of crisp, white vinyl. This innovation allows for the American Legends series to live nearly anywhere, even near the ocean, without rusting and rotting away in the elements. To this we add the smooth, solid white overlays made of sustainable material. Separating ourselves from the competition's fake wood grain completes the constructed look to appear as real, traditional wood. Both features ensure the longevity our ethics demand, the look we all crave, and a price point sure to please.

Our second construction platform truly shines in the blend between tradition and innovation. Using a hand placed wood frame and nesting in our insulation, we laminate a vinyl back cover and a solid vinyl exterior that encases the face. This slab now becomes a blank slate to bring you more for your door. Using both 3/8" and ¾" material, primarily Versatex, we have options to add select profiles and nearly limitless designs to satisfy inspiration. You will see these designs in our Euro-Dor and Presidential Collections offering both carriage, traditional, and modern styles.

To achieve a more classic carriage look, we offer the Roaring Twenties. This series starts with the same platform yet adds solid, sturdy overlays pocketed (nested) into the face. The pronounced look of this classic style can be modified in myriad ways to satisfy decorative features and historic applications. Each of these series offers incredible longevity and beauty we can all feel good about!

One of the predominant features found on a classic American carriage house door are the big windows. This highlight of the product is one to truly make it stand out. Where many others use window inserts or have to joint the pieces together, our tops are made of solid, one-piece vinyl material. This means the entire face of the top, or grille as it is referred, is one quality sheet of carved material with no joints or inserts. With options for finishing and a variety of upgrades, you can design to your heart's delight!

This series offers the true, classic look but makes itself at home in any opening. We offer 1" height and width increments in the Estate Collection products which gives way for Historic renovation where the opening is often an odd size or has uneven flooring. As seen in the image below of the Watch Hill Yacht Club in Rhode Island, we furnished them with 15 doors all of which had unique sizes to accommodate the various openings. Additionally, we are confident in our warranty regardless of their location to the water. For us this is no problem.

The Roaring Twenties is loved by architects, Historic Preservation organizations, and mother earth and will certainly raise the envy level of curious neighbors. This construction method with it's sustainable and beautiful design will bring satisfaction for years to come. Since the unfinished Versatex appears similar to painted wood, there are many reasons for it to be loved. With virtually no maintenance and sustainability you can count on, we proudly offer you more!

Portsmouth Fire Department

blog-Image---Portsmouth

Every so often I stumble upon a photo that takes my breath right away. A photo that speaks a thousand words engulfing the pride of a parent, the admiration of an artist, and the joy of a child. This was the case upon finding the featured image above of the Portsmouth Fire Department and our Roaring Twenties doors: I had to have it!

As many of us can imagine, those of us who spent the last year through COVID on the front lines are tired, busy, and stressed, so I hesitantly reached out to gain permission to use the image. When I got Assistant Fire Chief Bill McQuillen on the line, our chat began with laughter. He simply said, "This may be the best call I have this month: You only want information on our garage doors when everyone else has a fire to put out be it a real fire or COVID related or volunteer related or whatever else. So how can I help?" It was at least 45 minutes later we had to tear ourselves from the call as our joyful time was filled with history, humor, and an appreciation of our doors and their department for quality and service!

If you look closely at the photo above, you will see a hydrant; however, this one dispenses dog treats to the hundreds of canine passerby each day who visit this community hub. He spoke of this aspect with reverie for the connection it creates for the community as well as the members of the Portsmouth FD. As a family business and as a family unit, we support the efforts of Erin Fimbel, our President, who has fostered 27 dogs through her home and our office, this means a great deal to us! As I looked closer, it became clear the values that inspire this FD are aligned with those that inspire FADS.

The Doors

The Estate Collection, the platform for the Roaring Twenties doors selected for this project is built using a hand placed wood frame and nesting in our insulation. Next we laminate a vinyl back cover and a solid vinyl exterior that encases the face. This slab now becomes a blank slate to bring you more for your door and allow abundant design options. Applying solid, study overlays pocketed (nested) into the face creates the pronounced look of this classic style. Behind the smooth, high end look of wood, we use composite materials made from partners who value the earth as much as we do. Our doors are durable to stand the test of time as well as low-maintenance. It is this innovation and material selection that create the opportunity to be modified in myriad ways, including 1" height and width increments, to satisfy decorative features and historical applications.

We don't stop there! The one-piece grille with no joints or inserts and various profile options adds instant design appeal. In most of our doors we offer both large or small window options with custom designs, including window shape and placement, and custom arches available for your design needs.

We are very proud of our factory finish and offer it in both standard and custom paint options but also in an array of hand-applied faux stain. Using proprietary systems and heat-reflective high-performance paint, all Factory Finished products will be delivered with the finest finish in the industry with a furniture-like finish for exterior architecture. With a strong warranty and compassion for the earth, our paint is an excellent addition to your garage door.

All Fimbel products are insulated and engineered for sustainability. The products and processes we design are done to serve you and Mother Earth. We run on solar and give back our extra to the grid. We also plant one tree for each and every door we sell to be sure that future generations can enjoy the bounty and breath of our forests.

The Connection

Our innovation and sustainability make it possible to keep the past alive in places like historic, downtown Portsmouth. They have three locations, two are newer, but this classic beauty welcomed six black, factory-finished Roaring Twenties to their facade and their operations. Our values and products lined up with their needs and navigated their obstacles. When reading this quote from Fire Chief, Todd Germaine, it's impossible not to agree with their mission and feel we are a part of their value: "Throughout our history, we have taken pride in balancing tradition with innovation, and demonstrating a strong commitment in celebrating the past while at the same time looking to the future."

Feeling inspired by their alignment with who we are and my admiration for the project as a whole, I felt compelled to offer you a little insight into this department! The information below is from their website (shown in italics), and I encourage you to read along and fall in love as I did with the dynamic Portsmouth Fire Department!

History

Our story dates back to 1756 when the citizens of Portsmouth decided to organize and regulate fire protection. In the years to follow, they would improve the community's fire protection capabilities by purchasing fire engines and the building of fire houses. By the late 1800s the city would boast four steam fire engines and a horse-drawn hook and ladder. The first motorized fire engine was delivered in 1912 and in 1945 the department would begin providing ambulance service in the city. Today we are a modern, full-service fire department made up of sixty-one extremely dedicated professionals operating out of three stations. Throughout our history, we have taken pride in balancing tradition with innovation, and demonstrating a strong commitment in celebrating the past while at the same time looking to the future.

Mission Statement

Provide quality emergency, life safety, and prevention services for our citizens, businesses and visitors, with the highest level of valor, integrity, commitment, teamwork, and community involvement.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Portsmouth Fire Department is to be a recognized leader in the fire service, respected by our citizens for anticipating and responding to their ever changing needs. The department will embrace new technologies and techniques, focusing on training and education to provide the highest level of customer services and satisfaction in a professional and caring manner.

Services

The Portsmouth Fire Department provides fire protection, advanced life support ambulance, fire prevention, hazardous materials response, and special rescue services to the seacoast community of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The department provides these services through a compliment of forty-two firefighters, twelve fire officers, one fire inspector, three chief officers, an executive assistant and an administrative secretary. The Portsmouth Fire Department responds to over 4500 requests for services a year. The types of emergency and community requests consist of medical responses, motor vehicle accidents, structure and vehicle fires, fire alarm activations and services related to weather events such as flooding, lightning strikes and power lines down.

Additional services:

  • Sprinkler and fire alarm permits
  • Burn permit
  • Knox box
  • Dry chemical fire extinguisher disposals
  • Household sharps/needles disposal

Revisiting This Old House 2019 Ideas House

blog-feature---TOH-repost---exterior-angle

As the fourth generation of a family of manufacturers, we know what it's like to strive to preserve the integrity and legacy of the past while catching up to the innovations of today's design and building materials. Fortunately, we have learned to balance the two in order to provide a quality product built on tried and true practices while pushing the limits to give you more in a garage door.

We were proud to partner with another organization that holds the value of blending old school with new. The 2019 Ideas House in the coveted historic district of downtown New Canaan, CT featured the restoration of the facade of an 1880's Greek Revival. Karp Associates and CAH Architects married old with new to accommodate the legacy of the home and allow for modern aspirations.

The Style

The house was originally built in the late 1800's and until recently had been largely uninhabited with the exception of the rumored family of rats. Today it remains a built-from-the-ground-up glory that holds true to the original architectural style. Greek Revival architecture spans much of the 1800's designed to represent the triumph of our newly formed nation. The homes were painted in white to reflect the clean, solid marble of Greek design. They are typically rectangular in shape with a low pitch roof and large columns.

One defining aspect of Greek Revival is the windows and the front door which was often expansive to give dimension to the design. Typically they used double hung, 6-pane windows using a mid 19th-century glazing technique. The entry door is known for its dramatic side windows and transoms to enhance the interior light, overall sophistication to provide all who enter a warm welcome!

The Plan

The plan was to save the historic part of the façade, and build behind it a modern home with today's most innovative, quality building materials while preserving the window sashes and other aspects of the original build. Doing this requires the ability to adjust from the original material to a modern material offering sustainability and design capabilities. This is where we come in!

To complement the restored window sashes on the front of the home and many other features - both historic and contemporary - the Roaring Twenties Charleston design was chosen for the style, size, and complementing interior grille. Powder coated track was custom built to accommodate the angled roof and car lift. Every detail was considered in this project, and the garage doors were no exception.

The Doors

With the level of commitment made to the restoration of the front windows, selecting a garage door with complementary windows that are not only big and beautiful but built to last and allow the stark history to shine through. Using our one piece construction method to eliminate the gaps at joints and unsightly plastic inserts of other door models, our interior grille option enhances the character and depth of the top section! The complementary powder coated track truly shines as a nod to the modern twist of color used around the exterior and a break from the traditional white of Greek revival architecture.

The Result

When the project requires beauty and durability while offering more, the answer is a Fimbel door. This Old House Idea House 2019 is what new homebuyers want in a house today with its proximity to downtown New Canaan, the open and modern interior, and the finest 3-car garage in the area. With bonus rooms sprinkled throughout the house, it is clear they left no detail overlooked.

We are proud that our Roaring Twenties garage doors will welcome the new owners home and provide safety and durability for life. To learn more about how you can complement your home with a garage door uniquely crafted for you, please find a dealer and get curious about how you can find more in a garage door.

When to Install the Garage Door

blog-feature---when-to-install

There are many reasons to replace a garage door from increasing curb appeal to the impressive return on your investment to accidentally driving through a few sections to new builds and renovations. Whatever your reason, we have some tips and tricks on how to protect your purchases. Far too often we get contacted by a homeowner asking how to repair damage from flying masonry or remove splattered block spots from the driveway installation.

I cannot tell you the sadness this causes us. There is pride built into each door we manufacture, and each process was designed for beauty and durability. When we see avoidable issues defacing our doors, it's like we become the Garage Door Lorax (The Lorax speaks for the trees...and...well...we speak for the garage doors). So at this time, we formally declare the garage door deserves a more strategic dot on the timeline for garage/exterior renovations.

While we can manage several of these issues through repairs and/or replacements, our goal is for your experience with our garage doors to be a positive one, so we are here today to shed some light on what to consider before scheduling the installation.

There are several factors that can help select the right door for you. While design usually tops the list of factors (you can read more about our door designs here), we will focus today on those that contribute to the overall and super critical conversation around the life expectancy of a garage door.

Overall Quality of the Construction: When we build, we build to last. For nearly a century we have been manufacturing garage doors, and times have surely changed. Now we see design innovation and manufacturing excellence furnishing garages with absolute beauty and supreme function. At Fimbel ADS we are committed to carrying forth the quality and craftsmanship our great-grandfather built our family business upon while blending in the marvels of today's manufacturing capabilities. You will not find a more beautiful or durable door in the market because we have engineered our doors for your satisfaction.

Material Selection: We know that sustainability is important to today's buyer, and it is important to us. We choose materials that support our dedication to quality of the product as well as our dedication to sustainable practices and mindsets. Not only do we run on solar, we recycle every available component to reduce our imprint. Our chosen materials are engineered to work together to offer a beautiful and durable door you can count on. For example, the combination of the specifically chosen door material and the high-tech, eco-friendly paint system we selected is critical and allows us great confidence as we stand behind our products.

Geography: The combination of our construction and our materials results in garage doors that have withstood brutal impacts from hurricanes and intense winter weather, and they stand up to all of it while preserving the beauty. Because of these rigorous approaches to our final product, we are confident our doors will last whether they are living oceanside or mountaintop.

Required Maintenance: Our lifestyles are busy and continue to get busier which puts more demand on the products we purchase to bring nearly effortless maintenance. Though our doors look like wood, they are made of materials engineered for ease. Establishing a regular maintenance schedule with your installer will provide safe, convenient operation of your garage door.

Life Happens - We offer replacement sections on nearly every door we sell. You can be sure the sections will line up and the swap will be effortless when done by an authorized dealer. More often than not, manufacturers cannot supply just the one section thus requiring purchase of a whole new door. Not with Fimbel. Our technology gives you more options. So whether little Tommy and his hockey puck cause the damage, or an unwitting contractor attempts removal of cement with simple green*, we can offer you a replacement section you can count on.

*note: do not try this on a Fimbel garage door.

Now that you have selected a door that will bring you more no matter the circumstance, protecting your investment is rather simple but may require you to be proactive with the team. Having a discussion with the General Contractor on the project as well as the garage door installer is critical. They will need to discuss with the sheetrock team and the electrical team as well as others, so this conversation should happen early.

Here are some key aspects to discuss with your team prior to installation of the garage door:

  1. Is the flooring of the garage poured and levelled?
  2. Are the dimensions for the opening confirmed?
  3. Has the drywall for the garage been installed?
  4. Has electricity been run if the doors need to be operable?
  5. Will there be stonework done around the perimeter of the opening?
  6. Is the driveway completed?
  7. When are inspections scheduled? And what are they looking for regarding the garage door?

Coordinating this timeline will keep your beautiful doors from encountering any offense from falling ladders, splattered chemicals and materials, and whatever else a busy construction site can through at it. Our caution really boils down to this: We do not recommend installing the overhead doors early. They risk damage that may not be repairable. If there is no compelling urgency for safety, we suggest waiting until the end of the project to install the garage door.

I live in a 'smarter - not harder' world, and we aspire to bring that mindset to your garage door experience. In the photos above, we could point our several ways our gorgeous doors could be unnecessarily damaged, and we want to point that out to you to ensure you get more out of your door!

There is overwhelming evidence that a quality, high end garage door replacement adds value to your curb appeal and your wallet. "Compared with 22 other common home-improvement projects, an upscale garage door replacement offers one of the biggest bangs for your buck and costs much less than many other home improvement projects" according to the Remodeling Magazine's 2020 Cost vs. Value Report. Coming in at #2 with a 94.5% ROI at resale, the garage clearly deserves some consideration on when it will be installed to be sure you get the most out of it!

Keep your Home & Family Safe

blog-feature---safety
We have learned a lot this past year navigating COVID-19. From the importance of hand washing to the need to feel safe in our own homes. With so many unknowns, it became clear how important it was to
value safety above all else. In our family, the first rule of everything is "Safety. Always." This same rule applies to our family business. For 95 years, we have proudly manufactured doors and track set-ups to
provide safety and quality for your sustainable enjoyment.

In recent studies, we learned that 71% of Americans use their garage door as the primary entrance to their home. Considering the busy nature of life today, we can appreciate the wear and tear on the
system. With the various moving parts and the high volume of use, the function of the garage door is clearly essential. This is where quality is critical and awareness is key.

This May, the International Door Association (IDA) is promoting Garage Door Safety Month across the globe. We are truly thankful for the continued information and support the IDA offers us as longtime
members and providers for our Dealers and homeowners. To help you protect your family and your investment, we have gathered some tips to make sure that your garage offers you everything you need
without the headache. It is our honor to pass along their well-thought out insights to keep you and yours safe all year round!
Security:
● Burglars are smarter than you may think! Avoid leaving your garage door open unnecessarily, and make sure you know where the remote is at all times! In the event that your remote is lost,
make sure to clear the codes and have the remotes and keypads reprogrammed.
● Do you lock your car when it is left in the driveway? If you have your automatic operator linked to your car, a burglar could get in unbeknownst to you. Remembering to lock your car helps to
protect your home!
● Do you use MyQ or a similar app that allows you to open the garage door remotely? If so, be sure your phone and the application are locked securely. an accessible phone in the wrong
hands may give access to the home as well as other private information.
● The convenience of an automatic door is truly a great value; however, in the event of an emergency, such as a power outage, there are two things that will help you gain access to the
garage. The first is making sure there is an emergency release cord within reach and know how to use it. Be sure that it functions properly. Also consider a garage door opener with a battery
backup system to be sure the door can be opened and closed regardless of additional energy sources.
● Keep the garage door opener and remote control out of reach of children. These features are tools - not toys!
Function:

● Your garage door should be regularly inspected for basic function. Please contact a professional installer before performing any significant work on your own.
● Your automatic door is a convenience: It should safely function with ease and without much noise. If the movement of the door is not smooth, you may have an unsafe condition. It is
possible the spring system has become unbalanced and should only be maintained by a trained professional.
● The genius of a garage door opener is its ability to reverse direction. When a descending garage door meets an obstruction, it reverses to avoid it. If your door does not reverse readily after
contacting an obstruction, the opener's sensitivity may need adjustment. See your owner's manual for how to adjust your opener's sensitivity or call a professional.
● Included in the reverse feature is the photoelectric eye system. Installed 4-6" above the garage floor, and the eyes should be facing each other. As the door descends, the photoelectric eyes
will catch any people or animals crossing the light beam. If your opener does not have photoelectric eyes, you may want to call a professional for an upgrade.
● Normal wear and tear may invite some squeaks and noise. As the squeaks and noises present, try a spray-on lubricant (recommended especially for garage doors). If this doesn't resolve the
problem, reach out to a professional to assess the system. This is important because the springs are the most important and dangerous port of the door. Though they should last 5-10 years, it
is important to listen and watch for any issues to avoid catastrophe.
● When a garage door is properly installed, it should be rather quiet in its movements and operation. Any time grinding or scratching sounds present, consider it a red flag to call a
professional.

Observe:

● 20,000 children visit the emergency room each year due to garage door accidents. The wall push button for your garage door opener should be mounted at least 5' above the floor, and out of
the reach of children. Teach kids to never touch the cable and roller areas, even if the door is not in motion. Visit doors.org for more information.
● When closing your automatic garage door, always watch the door until it completely closes to make sure no person or animal is pinched between two sections or caught under a closing door.
Remember, never install wall buttons where they can be pushed and operated without clear sight of the door.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality under the safest conditions to offer you superior performance and a garage door with a long and beautiful life. Following these tips will add longevity and security to
your home and convenience and peace of mind to your life. But we know that safety goes beyond the function of the system but also to the integrity of the door. For us, sustainability means more than
environmentally and financially resilient but also durable and beautiful to last its lifetime. Enjoy this blog to learn more about the products we offer!

In most homes, the garage door is typically the largest moving system and is normally used several times a day. Over time, parts can wear out and break - creating potential safety problems. Although we
encourage monthly safety checks – May is Garage Door Safety month and a great time to get a professional installer to check your system. To find a dealer near you, visit our dealer locator!
A HUGE thank you to our Partners at the IDA for sharing this incredible information with us in order to help serve you, our customer!

Modern Design - Classic Construction

blog-feature-image---modern

Our family has manufactured garage doors for nearly a century, and we wouldn't be here today if not for the roots that ground us to quality and tradition as well as our ability to look ahead and employ innovation! In this way, we bring to the market garage doors that offer you more. Blending old-school craftsmanship with new-school mindsets, we offer a gamut of designs from carriage and traditional to custom and modern.

What are Modern Doors?

Modern architecture is defined as "a design language with an emphasis on form rather than ornament; structure and materials rather than picturesque constructions; and the rational and efficient use of space." While modern architecture has its roots in the 1890s, it became increasingly popular in the 1930s. For garage doors, this means the design captures the elements of contemporary architecture with clean, horizontal lines with mid-century appeal, sleek window shapes and configurations, and artsy complements.

At Fimbel ADS, much like at Burger King, you can have it 'your way'! We pride ourselves on offering you more in your garage door, and want to inspire you to think beyond the traditional and carriage style designs of many doors today and explore a door with a modern twist!

Two Platforms with Many Directions:

Essentially, we make two products – two platforms - upon which you can design away regardless of your desire to select from traditional to modern! We offer the American Legends using a vinyl clad steel pan and applying vinyl overlays to create the look of a classic wood door. This door is exceptional for two main reasons - the first is the platform (pan) made of a smooth, steel base created for the elements that we coat (clad) in a thin layer of crisp, white vinyl. This innovation allows for the American Legends series to live nearly anywhere, even near the ocean, without rusting and rotting away in the elements. The second is the addition of our smooth, solid overlays made of sustainable material. Separating ourselves from the competition's fake wood grain completes the constructed look to appear as real, painted, traditional wood and follows the sleek lines of modern doors. Both features ensure the longevity our ethics demand of us, the look we all crave, and a price point sure to please. These doors are typically more aligned with traditional and carriage designs, but our Estate Collection makes way for your design aspirations to come to life!

The Estate Collection:

The Estate Collection, truly welcomes the designer in all of us to emerge with the blend between tradition and innovation. Using a hand placed wood frame and nesting in our insulation, we laminate a vinyl back cover and a solid vinyl exterior that encases the face. This slab now becomes a blank slate to bring you more for your door.

Using both ⅜" and ¾" material, Versatex for unfinished doors and Tricoya for finished doors, we have options to add select profiles, shapes, configurations, and nearly limitless designs to satisfy inspiration. These capabilities allow us to build the door in 1" height and width increments as well as modify the core frame to accommodate windows and designs. You will see these designs in our Euro-Dor and Presidential Series offering carriage, traditional, and modern styles.

To get a better idea of the products we offer, follow this link to our product guide, but today, as we look ahead to the future, we eagerly offer you a glimpse into our modern offerings.

You won't find modern quite like this in many places! The architect, who built the structure with a nautical theme, curving fiberglass and masonry sides, along with a wall of glass facing the Long Island Sound, says he likes to think of it as a giant suspended wave. He wanted the durability of nature with the comforts of home, and its seashell-like strength was demonstrated during superstorm Sandy.

We found this article really helpful when looking into the details of this home! Enjoy this article from Newsday!

For this project, the homeowner wanted to replace the standard garage door with a modern complement to the home's architectural design. Using our Estate Collection platform, we reorganized the window layout and had a custom stain applied. The result is the look of individual planks of wood compiled into a four-section overhead door.

While the design of the door is rather simple, the impact is gigantic. The consistency of the faux stain and the quality of the windows adds satisfaction that will last.

What design element or architectural feature can we help you enhance?

More in a Garage Door

We don't hold back with the designs on our doors, so we can't hold back on the designs of our glass sections. Much like the sections described above, we use a solid sheet to create the face and contain the design. The one-piece grille with no joints or inserts and various profile options adds instant design appeal. In most of our doors we offer both large or small window options with custom designs, including window shape and placement, and custom arches available for your design needs.

Make it your own by choosing specialty glass for your garage door. With these options and many more, you can add style and details to your project while managing your privacy and the natural light you let in!

We are proud that our doors do more than bring beauty that lasts. They also support our mission for sustainability. Behind the smooth, high end look of wood, we use composite materials made from partners who value the earth as much as we do. Our doors are durable to stand the test of time as well as low-maintenance to add time to your lifestyle.

All Fimbel products are insulated and engineered for sustainability. The products and processes we design are done to serve you and Mother Earth. We run on solar and give back our extra to the grid. We also plant one tree for each and every door we sell to be sure that future generations can enjoy the bounty and breath of our forests.

Look ahead with Fimbel

For 95 years, our family has committed to the Legacy of the past and the hope for the future. We want our doors to bring you the same pride, so we offer a robust long-life warranty regardless of geography. We are proud to stand behind our products, and we are excited for you to experience the Fimbel difference. One with an arch top and 16 lites speaks to the traditional appearance of the home. The other, with the complementary transom with rectangular lites, shines with a modern edge. These two literally live beside each other, are built from the same stock, and have been individually selected to complete the varied appearance of the exteriors.

After seeing these two 'fraternal twins', I set out to get to know our Euro-Dor a little more intimately. What I found is that this particular construction, material selection, and patented processes make it the most versatile door in the garage door market today. We find a lot of Euro-Dors living out their time at the Jersey Shore and in Coastal areas which makes great sense for many reasons, such as its ability to withstand harsh geographical impacts, but a closer look reveals the Euro-Dor also accommodates virtually all architectural aspects because of its ability to transform its design and appearance to accommodate your desires. It is the chameleon of garage doors!

The Construction:

The Euro was the first vinyl product of its kind, and its patented innovation allows us to break boundaries in garage door design. Using a single sheet of material and dynamic machinery, we are able to run the design from section to section without interruption. This allows us to not only provide a precise and detailed design, but we can also customize it without limitation.

Here's how: Using a hand placed wood frame and nesting in our insulation, we laminate a vinyl back cover and a solid vinyl exterior that encases the face. This construction approach also provides significant structural stability to the door whereas many others use MDF and other composite materials to frame the inside. This slab now becomes a blank slate to bring you more for your door. Combining stability with sustainability, we chose smart material to provide both beauty and durability. The Euro-Dor wears 3/8" material on the face and edges, Versatex for unfinished and Tricoya for finished doors, that offers a smooth and clean aesthetic. We have options to add select profiles, such as V-Groove or Beadboard or Raised Panel, and nearly limitless designs to satisfy inspiration.

Image: Euro-Dor standard profile, smooth face, tongue and groove, encased in vinyl

When looking at the garage door market today, we found doors that were made with formed vinyl, but their material, construction and design options clearly lack the level of quality and durability we hold with our nearly 100 year legacy. We also found doors that look quite like ours, in fact using the exact same vinyl material, yet they paled in comparison. What they lack is our sturdy wood frame and the single sheet of material on the face. This feature alone will provide sustainability and satisfaction for years to come, not to mention added design capabilities. With no overlays or section joints to contend with, the vinyl can live significantly longer.

Where others find themselves limited in their top and window design options we have crafted ourselves to be nearly limitless. Because of the single sheet application we can provide nearly any window configuration and design without inserts. Add to this our precision machining, and you can count on a replacement section (versus having to purchase the entire door as others require) when little Tommy hits the hockey puck into a section.

Another distinguishing feature we found is the smooth, natural finish of our vinyl. VERSATEX is manufactured with the tightest tolerances, the brightest white, and the smoothest finish in the market. Our manufacturing techniques carve clean crisp profiles into the face of the door leaving edges sharp and finished smooth.

The Diversity of Design:

Using your unique design perspective, ambition, and talent, we offer you the opportunity to complete your vision with the quality and capabilities needed to truly round out your final project. Our doors allow you to capture architectural features used in original period designs or contemporary trends. For example, your windows can be nearly any configuration, any design, and nearly any location to tie features through the home to the garage door! You can accommodate any opening by customizing in 1" height and width increments or matching an uneven floor with a scribed bottom. The face of the door is fully customizable whether it's adding logos and routed designs to geometric shapes and windows to waves or anchors - you name it!

Color selection is a huge aspect of design. Using our D200 High performance finish, all Factory Finished products will be delivered with a clean finish to last! While most of our products do not require finishing and may remain natural, adding color to your project can add the wow-factor that we are after! Our vast and ever-expanding color palette includes blacks, charcoals, and dark greens as well as faux stains to truly replicate the look of wood without the maintenance.

With a cabinet like finish each door leaves our factory pristine and poised to last. We offer a standard color palette for solid finishes, but we also offer custom matching of any color you choose. If the desired look is to replicate a wood door, we offer nine standard faux finishes, but we also offer custom stain matching as well.

With additional options for decorative hardware, specialty glass, interior upgrades, and more, you can bring your dream door to life!

The Lasting Benefits:

When we build, we build for beauty and durability that will last because we care about your satisfaction as well as our environment. From our processes to our products, we reduce, reuse, and recycle everything we can. We run on solar, and we love to help reduce your overall maintenance efforts and costs.

Doors in the Estate Collection offer efficiency and noise reduction by laminating the insulation to the interior of the door to keep it in position and reduce pockets where air can reside. Tight construction and quality materials offer you confidence and savings. Providing a sustainable product is important because we believe our legacy has a responsibility to generations that come after us. We want this door not only to last but to provide energy efficiency for your home.

Fimbel doors offer you a low-maintenance lifestyle. The clean appearance of the door should last for years to come with a gentle clean with mild soap and water. No harsh abrasives or undue elbow grease necessary. This aspect may be overlooked, but when we consider the supply chain for cleaning products, the effort to implement the cleaning, and the residual waste moving into the earth, we see our processes make way for sustainability.

One of the longest lasting aspects of our doors is the contribution made upon purchase. For every door we sell, we work with our partners at One Tree Planted to plant a tree on your behalf. We know the resources generously given by Mother Nature need replenishing, and we want to pay it forward!

Make it a Fimbel:

When it comes to choosing your garage door, we have made that easy for you with the Euro-Dor (part of the Estate Collection). This choice offers you long term satisfaction at a price point packed with value. Originated on the foundation of old-world craftsmanship and classic designs, we have added innovative technology and materials to offer unmatched beauty and durability. Using patented processes, this door was the first to show a continuous design from section to section using a single sheet of material. This innovation allows us to break the boundaries of what you THINK you can do with a garage door.

What’s Brewing Behind your Garage Door

Blog-Feature-Image---Interior

Just like taste in music, the way we typically use our garage is unique to each household. Some garages are super organized for maximum use, and others are really full of toys and tools and tubs for storage while some are hubs of productivity. Either way, we know that the word garage comes from the French word "Garer" which means to shelter, and however you choose to use the space, your garage doors should shelter you, your family, and your home.

This often underappreciated space takes on a variety of uses, but employing its best use is more important today than ever as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and associated quarantines. Capitalizing on our available square-footage has become critical! Though you may need to amend your electric and insulation for some desired uses, you can gain more satisfaction with a little prioritization and consideration of how you will enjoy your garage.

We appreciate that old adage that "creativity is often born of constraint", and today we have to be more clever and efficient than before, so let's take a look at how to make the most of your space.

First: Consider your Lifestyle

How do you use it today, and how would you like to use it tomorrow? Often times we take for granted this space as simply the place to park a car (if there is room) and hide our stuff. At Fimbel ADS, we challenge this thinking and ask you to visualize what you wish the space could be! In all forms of continuous improvement, which is how we operate, a clear vision based on goals and values is always the first place to start.

  • Is your family growing as you welcome more children? Or are you facing the opportunity of an empty nest to reclaim the garage?
  • Have you aspired to bring new hobbies or side-hustles to your daily routine?
  • Do you need to escape to a garage based 'man cave' or 'she shed'?
  • Or do you simply need it to bring more function to a chaotic lifestyle?

Answering these questions should point you to a few ideas, but if you need to get the thinking-gears-a-turnin', there are some suggestions below to inspire you.

Next: Get Organized

Consider a few things as you get started. What is working well today and what proves to be a nuisance? Start by assessing the current use of the space and availability for change. Be sure there is space for safety and comfort. Establishing a value system is key. Unless you're considering a renovation, the space is fixed in its capacity and may not accommodate all of the aspirations you hold. But understanding what brings the most satisfaction will help make the best decision for your unique situation. While some people love to keep the garbage bin right by the door for easy access others would be appalled and choose to keep any aromas farther away though adding additional effort to the regular chore. Life is all about decisions, creativity, and preparation!

Some ideas for unique and effective ways to use your garage are listed below, but be sure to apply your own spin and make it your own!

  • Storage: Consider the methods you will use for safe and repeatable storage: racks, bins, labels (Oh...how I love my label maker), zones, color coding, and more! Check out our Pinterest page for more organization ideas!
  • Workshop: Consider the right workbench, tools, electrical availability, lighting, and storage to all your craftsmanship to shine!
  • Entertainment: Consider the electrical needs for a home movie theater, the water and electric for a home bar, soundproofing for band practice or a performance, and don't forget the comfy seating!
  • Craft and Art Space: Consider your favorite hobbies and prepare for the organization, implementation, and cleanup to make crafting a breeze. Don't forget to account for necessary insulation and lighting to allow for year round creativity!
  • Greenhouse: Consider the climate of your desired horticultural endeavour and work with the lighting, electric, ventilation, and irrigation of your target!
  • Beer Brewing (or wine or spirits): Consider the climate control needed, the electrical needs, and the storage for your desired libations!

For example, if your vision has you aspiring to create a classroom to teach an art class, is it also reasonable to fit both cars in the garage? Will the space allow both cars to enter easily and move in and out of the doors unobstructed? If this is the case and the art class is the priority, a shift in focus may be needed. Perhaps one car may find its home outside of the garage during classes. Perhaps a protective coating is used on the floor to allow for easy cleanup of paint or dirt dripped from the cars. Perhaps using clever storage options such as rolling racks for easels and rolling carts for supplies provides enough agility to have it all effortlessly! Perhaps you really can have it all!

For many, this requires a purge of the stuff you keep. It may be hard to let go of keepsakes or old bikes, but establishing your garage as a functional space requires decluttering. You can read along with this blog we wrote on organizing your garage!

Make it Count:

You have made the decisions and done the work, so be sure the garage and the garage door support the lifestyle you have just built. After accommodating any insulation or electrical needs, be sure the garage door offers effortless maintenance, solid insulation, and lasting satisfaction.

Why Buy Fimbel:

Our organization hangs our hat on safety and quality not only in how we make our products, but we want you to feel the benefits of that. Fimbel doors are manufactured to be safety first. You, your family, your home, and yOur doors are engineered for durability! We know that poorly fitted doors are not only unsightly but also allow unwanted openings. Since we can match nearly any opening, weather, burglars, and bugs will not have access to your home through the garage door!

Fimbel doors offer you a low-maintenance lifestyle. The clean appearance of the door should last for years to come with a gentle clean with mild soap and water. No harsh abrasives or undue elbow grease necessary. This aspect may be overlooked, but when we consider the supply chain for cleaning products, the time and effort to implement the cleaning, and the residual waste moving into the earth, we see our processes make way for sustainability.

Another way that we encourage sustainability is in the benefits you will feel toward energy efficiency! To get a basic idea, the older the door the more likely it is that money is seeping out through it. Our doors are made with insulation that is laminated and completely fill the cavity inside the door to keep air from moving around and through the door. A well-insulated door will reduce energy costs as well as maintain temperatures set in the garage. We want to help you keep cool air in during the summer and cold air out during the winter!

One of the longest lasting aspects of our doors is the contribution made upon purchase. For every door we sell, we work with our partners at One Tree Planted to plant a tree on your behalf. We know the resources generously given my Mother Nature need replenishing, and we want to pay it forward!

All of this points to a Fimbel door where we have built a legacy and our lifestyle around your satisfaction. From the materials we choose to the culture we create to the operations that guide our practices, we want to bring you quality that endures. We run on solar and plant a tree for every door sold, so we know we are dedicated to making life work for all. All Fimbel products come fully insulated with offerings for insulated glass packages to help control temperature and noise.

Let us welcome you to a garage lifestyle that satisfies!

What’s the Hype about R-Value?

blog-feature---r-value-1

R-We know that things have changed over the years and keeping up with the terms can be challenging. One such buzz word that has become newsworthy in our industry is R-Value. Everyone wants a 'good one', but few homeowners know what it means especially with respect to the garage door. Our goal is to demystify it with some simple information to help you find the right garage door for your home.

What is R-Value?

R-Value measures the thermal efficiency (resistance to heat flow or temperature conduction of a product). It is used to represent energy efficiency and stands for Resistance Value and is represented in imperial units. It is calculated by the thickness and physical properties. Simply put, a garage door with sufficient R-Value will keep heat inside the garage during winter and cool air inside during summer.

The higher the R-value the more effective the material/product is at preventing heat transfer. What we find interesting is that when interpreting the data, R-16 is NOT twice as effective as R-8. For example, R-8 equals 90% amount of heat flow reduction whereas R-12 equals 93% and R-16 is 95% amount of heat flow reduction. For frame of reference, the recommended R-value for basement insulation in North America is R12.

One interesting fact to know is R-value measures only conduction, and thus doesn't provide the whole picture. R-value doesn't take into account individual factors such as wind, humidity, and temperature changes which can cause air flow and leakages. Also not accounted for in the calculation is rising hot air and forced air from various mechanical systems in and around the home.

How do I choose the right door?

Since so many factors are involved, it is also important to choose the right garage door as well as maintain the efficiency of the whole garage. Because of this it is important to choose a garage door that is specifically built for your opening to prevent air flow leaks or excess water and humidity in. It is also important to have a smoothly operating track and operator system.

Is there more to a door than R-value? Absolutely! When you purchase a Fimbel door, you can count on weatherproofing to be addressed in the tongue and groove between sections. This is the 'Lego' feature to be sure the sections fit snug when closed, move easily when opened, and protect your garage from the elements and bugs! The weather strip at the bottom (the rubber astragal) needs to be durable and correctly positioned as it withstands ample use and endures the temperature fluctuations of the seasons. Additionally the exterior perimeter weather stripping must also be properly installed and maintained to seal out unwanted elements. Finally - having the door fit just right in the opening will help to weatherproof your garage even if it is an uneven floor that needs a door to be scribed to match. At the end of the day, without the right fit of the product and weatherproofing, the R-value is obsolete, and a snug fit is a must!

Is my home's R-Value high enough?

According to the United States Department of Energy, "just 1 in 5 homes constructed prior to 1980 are sufficiently insulated." Homes built today are required to meet certain standards for R-Value as set by the U.S. Department of Energy; however, this was not evident in homes built prior to the mid-1970's. When you boil this down, "approximately 80% of homes built before this time are in need of better insulation!" We know another buzz-word across all industries is sustainability, and we aspire to tackle this through our products and practices.

Sustainability, according to Investopedia's Definition, is defined as "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs", and we couldn't agree more. With Sustainable Architecture spreading in the world of design and architecture to encompass both functional and formal, we are ready to meet you there with the right product for your garage.

Whether you find inspiration in nature, the neighborhood, or the newest concept, our goal is to offer solutions to bring your vision to life while offering beauty and durability you can count on. From Residential to Commercial and Historic to Contemporary, we rely on nearly a century of experience to craft a product built to last a lifetime and bring elegance to every environment. Seaside Victorian Cottage: This Old House

Blog-feature---TOH-GHDQ-1

For those keen on preserving history, this blog is for you! The iconic show, This Old House, recently completed a project with Sweenor Builders in Narragansett, Rhode Island. They set out to revive an adorable - albeit dilapidated - seaside home with the intention of matching 'the existing structure without overpowering it" while incorporating today's modern innovations with the integrity of the original architecture. This project requirement led them straight to a set of Fimbel American Legends for the prominent garage door openings.

History Meets Today:

In many historic towns, such as Narragansett, the desire to preserve the image and integrity of the rich history means rigorous expectations are set to uphold the features. We find time and again that our doors meet the character, the appearance, and the sustainability demanded of these organizations. With the look of painted wood, the simulated divided lites, the ability to build in 1" height and width increments to accommodate awkward openings, and the opportunity to customize to meet design and historic desires allows our doors to make the cut.

The follow information is from Narragansett's Historic Preservation Standards and Guidelines which will show a solid example of the requirements to meet historic expectations:

  • Respect the original historical design character of the building and its setting. Don't try to make the building appear older (or younger) in architectural style than it really is. Above all, the genuine (authentic) heritage of Narragansett should be expressed; not an imagined history.
  • Research the building to determine which elements are essential to its character. Preserve features in your work plan.
  • Retain and provide protection and maintenance of historic features that survive in generally good condition.
  • Repair historic materials and features that are deteriorated.
  • Replace historic materials and features with new materials in-kind where deterioration is so extensive that repair is not possible.

Upon seeing these expectations, it is no wonder Fimbel doors are a premier choice for historic renovation projects!

The Seaside Victorian Cottage:

In Season 42 of This Old House, The Seaside Victorian Cottage built in 1887 when Narragansett first surged in popularity as a summer resort is a "three-bedroom, one-bathroom Queen Anne Victorian in the heart of Narragansett, Rhode Island sits on a corner lot, steps from the beach. It is in poor condition with rot, deterioration, and structural damage. The design will replicate the exterior architectural details, such as the curved shingles and the "rising sun" patterned clapboards, as well as improve the foundation and footings, fix and expand the deteriorating porch, and replace the rotting roof."

More than a century later, and after having been abandoned for a few years, the home sat prominently along one of Narragansett's main thoroughfares in severely poor condition. The original structure (the left side of the final result) has been preserved and enhanced, and the new garage add-on with the master suite is on the right. The middle of the home is joined by a mudroom, bathroom, and hallway. With consideration for yesterday, this home now satisfies all the needs of today's family.

Sweenor Builders, lead by Jeff Sweenor, has completed four projects with the This Old House brand, and each one demonstrates talent, creativity, and respect for the craft. The Seaside Victorian home was now exception. They took on this renovation by holding true to their mission:

Since 1989, it has been our mission to make custom home design and construction, an experience that our clients enjoy. With a genuine enthusiasm for what do, we apply in- depth building and design experience to ensure you a rewarding and personalized process from start to finish. This is what sets us apart — shapes our values, and the way we do business.

As a team, they designed a home that "will replicate the exterior architectural details such as the curved shingles and the "rising sun" patterned clapboards, preserve all the windows, improve the foundation and footings, fix and expand the deteriorating porch, and replace the rotting roof. A new addition that includes a two-car garage and mudroom on the first floor and a master suite on the second floor will match the existing structure without overpowering it."

More in a Garage Door:

The alignment of this project, with it's respect for the history and the design, brings us right to the garage doors used to complete the facade. We set out to elevate the garage door industry from just fine to fabulous (while still affordable), and we made that happen with the American Legends series: The first classic carriage style door made with vinyl clad steel and solid overlays. In the late 90's and early 80's, we saw the market lacked a true carriage door with the classic big windows and the sturdy overlay look, and we had the innovation and the experience to make it happen. This series offers all the appeal of a painted wood door, but the longevity, cost, and low-maintenance appeal for the needs of any home and homeowner!

Other manufacturers in the industry came close, but with the lumpy, embossed wood-grain texture, the plastic window inserts, and the weak construction, the end look lacked the quality and accuracy of a historic carriage style door. We saw this, and we stepped it up knowing homeowners and historical societies alike would respond with delight!

Using a vinyl-coated steel pan and applying composite overlays to create a classic wood door look, this Series lives everywhere - even near the ocean without rotting and rusting. Adding our smooth, solid overlays made of sustainable material separates us from the competition's fake wood grain. With customizable top designs in 1" height increments, we offer you more. The American Legends Series was engineered for longevity and designed for beauty at a price point sure to please.

Top That!

blog-feature---tops

They say windows are the eyes to your soul, and we believe they are also the highlight of many garage door projects! Add curb appeal to your home by choosing the right window design, placement, and size for your desire! From the big, beautiful windows of classic American carriage house doors to the geometrically shaped and varied placement of modern doors to personalization for you alone, all Fimbel window sections offer unmatched beauty and durability.

Before we get into what you will find in a window section of a Fimbel door, let's take a look at what you may be surprised not to find:

  • You will not find plastic inserts creating the design.
  • You will not find seams and cracks separating overtime through age and use where the design has been pieced together.
  • You will not find limitations in the size for the width or the height or the corners or the arch or the arches or virtually any other design feature you desire.

What you will NOT find makes your life more durable and more beautiful!

Presidential Series - Adams PR11S Trifold design.

Where many others use window inserts or have to joint the pieces together, our tops are made of solid, one-piece material. This means the entire face of the window section is one quality sheet of carved material to provide the highest quality and customization available.

Value

In the recently published Cost vs. Value Report from Remodeling Magazine, Garage Door replacement sits at #1 with a whopping 93.8% Return on Investment at resale! Whoa! It is clear that curb appeal is greatly enhanced with a quality garage door!

One way to increase curb appeal is by adding a top section to make the door more inviting. Since 71% of American use their garage door as the primary entrance to their home, we proudly offer a warm invite with the nearly unlimited customization as well as beauty and durability of our top sections!

Presidential Series - Lincoln PR12 with custom lites.

 What sets us apart

Others find themselves limited in their window design options, while we have crafted ourselves to be nearly limitless. Because of the single sheet application we can provide nearly any window configuration and design without inserts. The patented construction of Fimbel doors allows for either larger or smaller window options and are available in 1" height increments (all series) and 1" width increments (excludes the American Legends which offers 3" width increments) for greater flexibility.

The precision fit machining of the Estate Collection allows for a tight seam between the top section and the section below. Where others may have a rounded edge all of our doors with meeting rails will have a precise clean fit.

All of the sections of our doors including the top section provide you with a low maintenance lifestyle. Through basic cleaning and annual cleaning practices can keep the exterior looking smooth and clean, maintaining the cleanliness of the glass, gives the whole door a shine and the appearance of brand new.

Euro-Dor Series - Euro Raised Panel with Sunray top design.

Get Creative with our Construction

To truly make this your own, custom designs and arches are available in nearly any configuration of simulated divided lites, but we also invite you to explore our options for scroll tops, architectural designs, and unique window options. You can further make it your own by choosing specialty glass for your door! As you can see from the variety of samples shown below, if you can dream it, we can make it!

C-grille profile has a rounded design and the V-grille profile has a sharp design.
Traditional style and Euro style tops are available; various design options.

Take a peak!

Depending on the style of your home and door, windows can truly add to the look of a home's overall appearance whether it's at the beach, the suburbs, or the mountains! Take a journey to get an idea of what's available for you!

One with an arch top and 16 lites (left) speaks to the traditional appearance of the home. The other (right), with the complementary transom with rectangular lites, shines with a modern edge. These two literally live beside each other, are built from the same model door, and have been individually selected to complete the varied appearance of the exteriors. Imagine how this style could complement your home with the right design!

Euro-Dor Series - EU505-Athens (left) with 32” Euro top (16 lites) and EU504-Brussels (right) with 26” Custom top (2 lites).

At Fimbel ADS, much like at Burger King, you can have it 'your way'! We pride ourselves on offering you more in your garage door, and want to inspire you to think beyond the traditional and carriage style designs of many doors today and explore a door with a modern twist!

Euro-Dor Series - Modern Style with staggered lites and custom glass.

Typically window sections will be designed and installed at the top of the door, but there is no limit to where you can add the windows or the window section! In the image below, the double window section adds to the farmhouse feel of the home!

Euro-Dor Series - Santorini EU18S with double window section with custom lites.

To spruce up the interior and bring in the appearance of true divided lights, we offer an interior grille insert (grille is the technical name for the narrow stips that create the panes of a window). Don't be fooled though, this is not a plastic insert pieced together to complement your design. The same quality of the exterior, visible grille and whatever design and configuration you've chosen, can be replicated on the interior of your Fimbel Door. This small upgrade finishes off the door with a clean, high-end look.

Roaring Twenties Series - interior grille inserts.

Remember that 'single sheet' construction we mentioned earlier? Here's one area we allow it to shine! Using the same process used to create the standard window designs, we can carve intricate scrollwork (and more) into the design. Using a two-tone paint application, we can then make it look like wrought iron for an elegant and timeless look.

Presidential Series - Roosevelt PR13A with two tone paint and custom scrollwork.

We love to honor history and the incredible evolution of architecture over time, so preserving history through restorations makes our hearts swell. But we know those projects can often have unique openings and demands from local historic preservation organizations. For this we are able to customize the size of the door as well as any arches or designs. Custom and elliptical arches are available as well as Colonial corners and so much more!

American Legends Series - McCormick LV15A with custom top.
Roaring Twenties Series - Detroit RT11S with Traditional style top and custom arches.

Not only does a window section add to the overall design of the door, adding this element will add natural light to your garage!

American Legends Series interior.

Insulated Glass Package:

With options for an insulated glass package you can avoid condensation and other unsightly results when combining a heated or temperature controlled garage with insulated glass. This package will add a more robust set of interior hardware to accommodate the weight of the insulated glass itself, but we can engineer our way around anything and make sure your door functions as it should. For more information, you can catch up on the conversation by reading our Condensation Blog.

With this package you can improve energy efficiency and avoid condensation as well as keep heat in during the winter and keep heat out during warmer temperatures. Managing the temperature of your garage reduces the demands on your home's heating system and finances.

Euro-Dor Series - Athens EU505 with custom arch top and faux stain.

Here's what NOT to do:

Brace yourselves - the following images may be upsetting to anyone who loves garage doors the way we do. Each of these projects could be properly designed to complement the opening rather than simply closing it, and we have the solutions to do just that at Fimbel ADS.

This first example is just all wrong. The American Legends doors were made as they were ordered, but the options to make it right were not addressed.

  1. Note that the doors are even with one another - the driveways are at different elevations. This small impact shows the difference in the reveal (the exposed material) at the top. We could have addressed this issue by adjusting the size of each section to keep the sections like up and the reveal at the top even with the other.
  2. Note that the corners of the window section are covered by the opening's Colonial Corner design (sometimes referred to as clipped, Dutch, or chamfered corner). This issue is seen all too often and can be easily addressed by sending us the measurements to complement the opening.

In our experience over the last (almost) 100 years in the industry, we believe that custom openings deserve custom arches. As seen in this image, the custom arch of the opening is not the same as the standard arch we offer. Do you see the difference in the reveal from the middle to the sides? This could have been easily addressed with a few basic measurements. We believe your home deserves the best. That is all…

And one more with the arch issue mentioned above. This project has a custom 'salmon' color factory finish to complement the bronze details around the home's architecture; however, the ample reveal in the middle is in contrast to the lack of reveal at the corners. This small aspect detracts from the quality that surrounds the detail.

Investing in the Garage Door

blog-feature---investing

Garage doors have come a long way. For decades they simply stood sentinel to welcome vehicles and hide our belongings. Today, 71% of families use the garage as the primary entrance to the home, and the role of the door has changed. You will not find a more beautiful or durable door in the market, and we are sure it will only bring satisfaction to your life.

As summer moves toward fall, and we embrace the chills of autumn, making sure the garage is efficient, secure, and safe should be on the honey-do list. For some garages it may be a simple repair or tweek, but rest assured when you replace your door with a quality, high end door, it will be worth it's weight in gold! "Compared with 22 other common home-improvement projects, an upscale garage door replacement offers one of the biggest bangs for your buck and costs much less than many other home improvement projects" according to the Remodeling Magazine's 2021 Cost vs. Value Report. Coming in at #1 with a 93.8% ROI at resale, the garage clearly deserves some attention!

Before and After: Roaring Twenties Series - Charleston RT12S with custom Faux Stain Factory Finish.

Whether you are building (or rebuilding) your dream home, we want to help enhance your curb appeal, ensure sustainability and energy efficiency, and allow for a low-maintenance lifestyle. With a Fimbel door you can count on more!

The most obvious reason to replace your garage door is to improve the curb appeal of the home. The term applies to the aesthetic appeal of a residential or commercial building as perceived from the street, and it was made popular in the 90's with the release of HGTV's show "Curb Appeal". As you may know, the entry door of most homes only constitutes 8% of the home's frontage while the garage door often consumes 30%, we can see the potential for impact with a new door. With the impressive ROI, utilizing the capabilities we offer through our manufacturing as well as additional options such as finishing and hardware, updating the garage door is a slam dunk! To learn more about designing like an architect, please enjoy the attached blog post where we take you through the process!

Make it Matter:

Your choice today in a quality garage door will impact you for years to come. Not only is the style and design of the door critical to the overall appearance of the home, the longevity of the door, the durability of the door, and the reputation of the manufacturer matter. We have been manufacturing doors since 1924, and we know that the right door with basic, annual maintenance will lead to satisfaction and efficiency for the long haul.

Choosing the right material is critical. Our doors are manufactured with materials that will last. Regardless of geographic location, Fimbel doors offer energy efficacy and durability no matter the proximity to water, snow, or high winds. Whether you choose the American Legends or the Estate Collection, all Fimbel doors are designed to last from the construction to the materials we have chosen because your satisfaction is our goal!

Before and After: American Legends Series - Vanderbilt LV12S with Traditional top.

Make it Your Own:

First choose your style. While there are many, many design options available in our lineup, there are three basic styles of garage doors in our industry: Traditional, Carriage, and Modern.

Traditional garage doors represent the designs of the second half of the 1900's using raised panel and recessed panel designs. Carriage style garage doors will have an overlay look representative of the doors used on barns for a timeless look. Finally, Modern style garage doors can run the gamut but often have clean lines, smooth surfaces, and interesting windows.

American Legends Recessed Panel; American Legends Carriage Style; Euro-Dor Series Modern.

With Fimbel ADS we can accommodate any of the design styles you desire. Our doors have the sought after look of painted wood without the maintenance. Our Euro, Presidential, and Roaring Twenties series give you the liberty to design to your heart's delight. Our American Legends series comes not only in the classic carriage style but also recessed panel and modern while offering customizations!

Our finishing options give way for your design to take flight with a standard color, custom color, or hand applied faux stain of your choice. Using sustainable paint products and proprietary application processes, our finish will last and bring peace of mind. To find out more about our finishing options, here's another blog post to help paint the full picture for you!

Finishing color and stain options.

Color isn't the only way to make a Fimbel door your own. We offer you the opportunity to design your door down to the smallest detail. Whether you want to customize the top section to allow for more or less light, or you want to redesign the top section completely to incorporate scrollwork or a custom design, we have the options for you.

Another way to make it your own is to add decorative hardware to the face of the door. To simplify the installation and application of the add-on features, we can customize our rails and designs to accommodate their size and even pre drill the holes to guarantee a polished final look. To complete the package for the hardware, you have the option to powder coat the track system in virtually any color though we like clean white and solid black!

Make it Smarter:

Our organization hangs our hat on safety and quality not only in how we make our product, and we want you to feel the benefits of that. Fimbel doors are manufactured to be safety first. You, your family, your home, and your belongings will rest safely behind our door. Our doors are engineered for durability!

This aspect may be overlooked, but when we consider the supply chain for cleaning products, the effort to implement the cleaning, and the residual waste moving into the earth, we see our processes make way for sustainability.

Before and After: Roaring Twenties Series - Hartford RT11A with Traditional Top.

To back this beautiful, energy efficient, and low-maintenance lifestyle, we offer you a robust warranty that will satisfy! Regardless of your geographical location, we offer a warranty for our products coast to coast and proudly stand behind our warranty.

Make it a Fimbel:

Don't compromise aesthetic appeal for practical needs - you can have it all with a Fimbel door. With our designs, you can find the right door to offer you more. If energy efficiency is what you are after, we have you covered. If your geographic location is limiting your choices, we have you covered. If you are driven by value and longevity, we have you covered. Or if you simply want to make your neighbors jealous, we've got that, too! We are here to provide the door to support your lifestyle and desires – no matter your opening or aspiration, we have you covered!

Design your Door in Six Easy Steps

design-door---feature-image

Are you ready to replace your existing garage door? Or are you designing and building your dream garage? Have you been overwhelmed with how to find the right one? We make it easy because what we make is designed for you, your home, and your satisfaction.

With almost 100 years of manufacturing and engineering excellence, our four-generation family business has been a recognized leader and innovator in the garage door industry. Since our humble beginnings in Hillside, NJ, when we started producing doors for The Overhead Door Company, to our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities today, Fimbel Architectural Door has earned a reputation for quality and design excellence.

Whether your needs are residential or commercial, carriage style or modern design, historic restoration or new application, we can create the perfect garage door experience for you. We will design and build your door using low-maintenance, energy-efficient materials, manufactured in a sustainable way.

When we build, we build for beauty and durability that will last because we care about your satisfaction as well as our environment. From our processes to our products, we reduce, reuse, and recycle everything we can. We run on solar, and we love to help reduce your overall maintenance efforts and costs.

Consider the longevity of the door by inquiring about the maintenance required. We believe a low-maintenance lifestyle is the way to go, so we build for ease and confidence. It is also valuable to understand what happens if a section is damaged and needs to be replaced. Many manufacturers without the details we have often cannot replace a single section requiring the purchase of a new door. With few exceptions, we think that is bogus! If you need a replacement section, we will gladly work with you to make it right (note: our hand applied faux stain may not be that easy as it is custom artistry, so we may need another section to match it).

We are so confident in our products that we offer you a robust warranty regardless of geography or design. You can rest well knowing our family has your back for years to come!

Ready to dig in? Here are six easy steps to help you through the journey to your garage door!

For more information behind these steps, please visit our website, but here is the gist to get your gears turning!

Step 1: What's Behind the Door?

How do you want to use your garage? Like 71% of Americans, will the garage door be the primary entrance to the home? Do you live an active lifestyle (snowmobiles, ATVs, golf carts, boats)? Establishing the lifestyle you want to enjoy will help you determine the garage needs. If it will be a living space or man-cave, designing the door with insulation is key. If it is a workspace, lighting will be important. For car lifts and home gyms, hi-lift track might be needed!

Whatever the relationship is with your garage, choosing the right door can make all the difference!

Step 2: Determine Your Budget

Having a budget helps your sales representative guide recommendations. A few things to consider as you approach the project are:

  • Expect to pay more for insulated garage doors, double doors, or custom sizes and designs.
  • Higher quality materials and manufacturing processes can influence a budget.
  • Low-maintenance materials and processes are engineered to bring convenience to your life by requiring less of you, but these higher grade products may influence the budget.
  • Stain and paint options are readily available as an upgrade.
  • The Insulated Glass Package for an insulated or heated garage may be needed depending on how you want to use the garage space.

Step 3:Pick Your Garage Door Material (FOR RESIDENTIAL APPLICATIONS)

Your material will impact budget, appearance/style options, longevity, durability and annual maintenance.

  • Vinyl - BEST: Offers beauty, durability, and design flexibility with the look of painted wood but is weather-resistant, so it will not rot, split, or crack like wood. It is virtually maintenance-free and comes naturally white.
  • Wood Composite - BETTER: Has the look and design flexibility of wood or vinyl, but unlike wood it does not require maintenance. Requires initial finishing but can be painted or faux stained regardless of exposure to head and the environment. It will not rot, split, crack, or rust.
  • Vinyl-Coated Steel - BETTER: Smooth, natural white finish offers exceptional beauty and options for paint or faux stain finishing. Budget-friendly with many of the benefits of vinyl and steel combined. Weather resistant, durable, dent-resistant, will not rot, split, crack, or rust.
  • Wood - GOOD: Beautiful when new but requires ongoing maintenance to remain in good condition and to avoid rotting, splitting, or cracking. Can be painted or stained and provides many design options. Wood doors are the original overhead door.
  • Stamped Steel - GOOD: A lower-cost alternative but does not have the curb appeal of other options. Limited in style options. Little to no maintenance required but is prone to corrosion, rust, and denting, leading to a shorter life-cycle. Can be finished.

We choose Versatex as our Vinyl (unfinished doors in the Estate Collection), Vinyl Coated Steel (for our American Legends Series), and Tricoya as our Wood Composite (finished doors in all series) based on the tried and true benefits of each product. These materials offer ease and confidence to our processes and your experience.

Step 4: Overcome Environmental Considerations

It is clear that Mother Nature is on a rampage, and we aim to keep her out of your garage and home; however, we also want to protect and preserve her. Purchasing a Fimbel Door will bring you that confidence. From our partnership with One Tree Planted to our processes to our products, we reduce, reuse, renourish, and recycle everything we can, but our doors are engineered to withstand what life and the environment throw at them. Choosing the right material and the right construction is key to a door that can endure the unknown of our environmental conditions.

Step 5: Choose Your Design and Options

Every Fimbel door we make is uniquely crafted for you. Our doors come in a range of styles and price points with capabilities for customizations to satisfy your design desires. Using multiple design patents with materials and processes engineered for beauty and durability, we offer you more. Residential or Commercial. Carriage Style to Modern Design. Historic Restoration or New Build. Our doors satisfy the need.

 Step 6: Door Finishing Options

As you dream of your door coming to life, don't forget to consider your options. We are very proud of our factory finish and offer it in both standard and custom paint options but also in an array of hand-applied faux stains. The result is the finest finish in the industry and brings a furniture-like finish to exterior architecture. With a strong warranty and compassion for the earth, our paint is an excellent addition to your garage door.

Using heat-reflective high-performance paint, all Factory Finished products will be delivered with a clean finish to last! While most of our products do not require finishing and may remain natural white, adding color to your project can add the wow-factor that you are after! Our vast and ever-expanding color palette includes blacks, charcoals and dark greens as well as faux stains to truly replicate the look of wood without the maintenance. With solutions for replacement of damaged sections to navigating tough exposures to Do-It-Yourself options, our finish will brighten up your home and increase durability. Meet the Fimbel Family

blog-feature---4-generations---smart-ceo
With almost 100 years of manufacturing and engineering excellence, our four-generation family
business has been a recognized leader and innovator in the garage door industry. Since our humble
beginnings in Hillside, NJ when we started producing doors for The Overhead Door Company, to our
manufacturing facilities today, Fimbel Architectural Doors has earned a reputation for quality and design
excellence. Whether your needs are residential or commercial, carriage style or modern design, Historic
restoration or new application, we can create the perfect garage door experience for you.
In 1924, 10 years after Ford's first moving assembly line came to life, Edward Fimbel, Sr. purchased the
very first franchise from the inventor of the overhead garage door. Then known as the Overhead Door

Company of Hillside, he built a business and a legacy on craftsmanship and quality.

Image: Three “E. Fimbel Presidents” of Fimbel Manufacturing: Erin Fimbel, Ed Fimbel III, Ed Fimbel Jr.
The company moved to modern facilities in Whitehouse Station, NJ in 1969 where we still operate today
as. In this location, Edward Fimbel, Jr. lead the company through decades of cultural and political
turmoil, and at the age of 95, he remains a staple in the office and as a resource. To learn more about

our origins, check out this article.

In 2004, Edward Fimbel III foresaw the increase in popularity of carriage doors and founded Fimbel

Architectural Door Specialties manufacturing patented doors from composite materials and continuing
the commercial product line with a more focused product offering.  Thanks to the creativity and wealth
of knowledge he possesses, there are now many collections of beautiful, virtually maintenance free, and
sustainable garage doors continuing the family tradition.
As Ed transitions to retirement, he will continue to be involved with Fimbel new product development
on a limited basis in 2021. Ed looks forward to turning his attention to some of his other passions,
including activities as an amateur archeologist working with the Flemington Historical Society dating
artifacts and curating educational exhibits. During his leisure time he also expects to be spending more
time with his wife, grandchildren and three siblings, as well as sharpening his skills at skiing, tennis, and
golf.

Today, Erin Fimbel and Michaela Birdyshaw, Ed Fimbel III's daughters have taken the company to the
next level despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. With focus on continuous improvement and
growth, they are carrying on the family traditions and bringing today's business mind to the table.

Erin, as President of Fimbel ADS, has grown through the ranks to this position with grace and dedication.
She was quoted once saying, ""It is important to both embrace and challenge tradition," and she has
done so with grace and determination.
Her willingness to listen, to adapt, and to grow has been a true asset to the company and beyond. Her
passion for the industry has brought her to board positions for both the Professional Door Association of
New England and the International Door Association where she serves on several committees.
Erin's love of dogs has become a staple for the business. "My foster pups often come to work with me",
said Erin. "The team loves our four-legged additions to the family. They interact, walk, play, and love our
fosters as well as help promote and find them homes." It is a friendly, furry reminder to lead with
compassion and discipline to attain your goals!
Michaela, as Vice President of Marketing, left the classroom as a high school teacher and headed to the
family conference room as the Office Manager. Today, she shares her excitement for words and
creativity and people through any open channel which helps to breed a family, fun, and effective culture
both within the company and with our network and partners.
What we share as a family goes well beyond the business and into all parts of our life. Our shared love of
Mother Earth is exemplified by our dedication to green manufacturing with solar panels, eco-friendly
materials, and so much more. Our pride for the past and hope for the future hold us accountable to one

another, our team, and our partners. Our joy for life is present always - despite the trials and tribulations
we all face. Our commitment to safety is seen everywhere in and out of our business. Our dedication to
quality is a guiding light. Our people are the heart and soul of all that we are, and it shows in the
teamwork and dedication shown. All of this becomes a piece in the puzzle of our incredible products.

Our ability to design and engineer custom applications makes us a favorite among architects and design-
build firms. We make the Fimbel ADS's engineering department available to provide insights and
inspiration to architects and engineers seeking to solve a tough challenge or simply needing to design a

completely unique door from advanced materials. Enjoy a quick, informal 'tour' of our showroom.

family meets the world. Our commitment remains to that time-honored tradition today. We will design
and build your door using low-maintenance, energy efficient materials, manufactured in a sustainable
way because we know the past is what got us here, and the future depends upon our good choices. We

Fall for Fimbel Finishing

blog-feature---McLaughlin-stain-doors EU 504 Brussels with V-Grooves and Faux Stain. Photo: Timothy Flemington Photography for McLaughlin Construction
For nearly a century, our family has manufactured garage doors, and in that time, we have learned a great deal about the industry through our partners, products, and passions. Today, we
are proud to package with our environmentally friendly garage doors a paint and faux stain coating that will endure the elements using molecular bonded paint to stand the test of time.

Using D200 High performance finish with our proprietary system, all Factory Finished products will be delivered with a clean finish to last! While most of our products do not require finishing
and may remain natural white Versatex, adding color to your project can add the wow-factor that we are after! Our vast and ever-expanding color palette includes blacks, charcoals, and dark
greens as well as faux stains to truly replicate the look of wood without the maintenance. With solutions for replacement of damaged sections to black paint in tough exposures, we are sure
our finishing options will satisfy you with beauty and durability!

Almost as many colors as the Fall Foliage

The finishing program offers myriad options to satisfy the needs of your project. From solid colors covering the entire door or perhaps used in a two-tone application, we offer custom color matching in addition to our extensive standard offerings.

Roaring Twenties RT11A St. Louis with V-Grooves and Factory Finish in a custom color

The magic of this paint system is the versatility to allow us to create our faux stain! Using a two part process of the same paint we use to coat our doors, our team of Artisans use their trained
hands to apply first the grain design and then the top coat offering the final overall richness of color. The result of this process allows us to increase grain depth or decrease it as needed as well as custom color match to your desired finish.

Love in Every Door!

Fimbel doors are hand crafted and every detail perfected from our patented construction through the processes all the way to our logistics operations, so it's no doubt we apply this
same level of quality to our finishing. You can count on an Architectural coating with a cabinet finish unseen in other exterior applications. The detail applied to the multiple applications to
achieve this look is engineered for the strongest adhesion and cleanest finish.

We know that vinyl garage doors tend to respond adversely to the extreme temperature and weather conditions they face. This began as an obstacle that has since turned into an
opportunity. While our VERSATEX PVC doors are crafted to remain in their natural white, we found a solution to the projects requiring dark colors in tough exposures. Using Tricoya and our
proprietary finish system, we have not yet found a stain or a color request we couldn't satisfy!
Roaring Twenties RT11S Detroit with V-Grooves and Black Factory Finish

We Love our Planet!

Our factory finish, made with D200 High performance paint, is an exterior waterborne coating system designed for sustainability and aesthetics. It's extremely fast air dry and quick clean up
offers efficient processes for in-factory and DIY finishing. Additionally it is formulated with heat reflective pigments to minimize heat gain for dark colors and is considered non-hazardous by
EPA standards allowing for the vast color options in our palette. Above all else, D200 exceeds all environmental and performance standards, and the result is absolutely stunning!

Highlights of our Finishing System:

Using our application, we deliver a cabinet-like finish
Long lasting for continued satisfaction

Fall Garage Door Maintenance: Hire a Pro

blog-feature---interior-maintenance American Legends interior

During the COVID quarantine of 2020, you may be among the masses who took a deep dive into the home improvement projects that have stock-piled during our regularly scheduled lives. From painting rooms to planting seeds, we kept our local home improvement stores busy!

Maintaining operations as an essential business throughout, we also heard the stories from our dealers about homeowners revamping their garages. While we fully support the desire to DIY, we urge caution when it comes to the garage door. If you are eager for the reorganization of your garage, please visit our Pinterest page for lots of ideas (it's possible I may be an organization fanatic), but if you need your garage door serviced or replaced, we have some tips for you!

1. Safety First

In our organization, safety is our guiding light. All of our decisions must first pass through the net of safety. If it isn't safe...it doesn't happen. With this mindset, we encourage you to hire a professional for your garage door needs. While regular maintenance can be handled at home, such as the checking of the photo-eyes or confirming the track is lubed, when it comes to springs, track, and the sections, finding a pro is key.

While many feel the installation of a garage door simply couldn't be rocket science, we have to disagree. We work with many experienced professionals who will share stories told to them of hands being crushed between sections, fingers being lost when a spring is wound too tight, and whole sections being damaged beyond repair when they fall out of the opening. All of these occurrences are avoidable when done by a professional.

2. Not all openings are created equal

There is a good chance, if you have a newer home, that the opening of your garage door will either be 8' x 7' or 9' x 8' if you have a single door or 16' x 8' for a double door. For the most part this is easy when the opening is standard. What gets complicated if there are any imperfections in the level of the floor, the room above the door, and the area designated for the track. Any limitations here may require special set-ups or perhaps a special door.

To be sure your door moves safely, quietly, and consistently, the right tracks, springs, door sections, and operator will be necessary. A professional will be able to assess and prescribe the correct combination for your project. If there are questions, our engineers are standing by to help resolve issues and find solutions!

3. Experience brings efficiency

In a perfect world, life runs smoothly - like clockwork. But we know the world is not a perfect one. During most garage door installations, some aspects of the install may need adjusting. From snipping bottom rubber to accommodate hardware, clipping extra length of bar off the operator in a low ceiling garage to avoid hitting the car, or replacing angle iron to secure the install. Additionally, most installations require working with electricity which should always demand a professional.

Many of these on-site obstacles require the tools and materials to navigate without delaying the install. When the installer is prepared, you can be sure the efficiency (and cost) of the job remains on point.

4. Know when to repair and when to replace

We know it's not always clear when to replace or when to repair. Making this decision on your own may prove fatal. If you have concerns about the state of your door, please call a professional if any of these 'symptoms' occur:

  • It reverses direction
  • It's slow to open
  • It closes or opens by itself
  • You can see track misalignment
  • It makes strange noises
  • It has temperature inconsistencies
  • It's warped or weather damaged in some way

5. Warranties are your friend

Most garage doors and installations come with a warranty; however, most will be voided if repairs are attempted by the homeworner. In most cases, the installer will offer a service agreement during the warranty period, and the manufacturer will offer a warranty as well. Maintaining this coverage can truly help you maintain the life and safety of your garage door investment.

Find the Right Pro

When you seek out the professional to service or sell you your garage door, we encourage you to ask a lot of questions to vet out the right partner for your project.

      What company reviews are available?

What service packages are included with the installation?

What warranty comes with the installation and the parts?

Does the installer offer a satisfaction guarantee?

What can be done in advance of the installation to prepare?

How long has the company been in business?

How much experience does the installer have?

Are they licensed and insured?

When you attempt the repair or replacement of your garage door, you may end up lucky and only endure some frustrations and added finances, but we caution you as the risks may prove far more damaging. At Fimbel ADS, we have nearly a century of experience to help us guide you through the journey. Our doors are constructed to last, and we strive for your safety and satisfaction.

One Door - One Tree

blog-feature---one-door-one-tree

One family value that drives who we are is a shared respect for and devotion to the earth and its beings – human and animal. This core value is seen today in our commitment to reducing our footprint as we honor the past and move to the future. To sustain this balance, our focus is all about quality and safety. These two measures are applied to not only the products we manufacture, but the processes and people involved. Our priorities are clear: supporting the environment, our global and local community, our team members, and our partners. Each of these priorities drives us to succeed only to the betterment of all.

Going Green is more than a slogan:

Through our partnership with One Tree Planted (501c3) we do our part to restore our generous forests and our planet. It is undeniable that mother nature's bounty has provided for the garage door industry and our family since we both began manufacturing overhead doors in the early 1920's. Today, every single door sold by Fimbel Architectural Doors plants a tree through the hard work and commitment of our tree-loving partners. Together, we hope to make the world more beautiful and sustainable one door and one tree at a time.

At the end of the day, we love going Green! From our strategy for logistics to the fact that we run on SOLAR and pass along our unused power back to the grid. We conserve on single use plastics, convert practices to paperless, purchase compostable products when single use is necessary, and so much more.

We know we cannot change the world with only a door, but we can challenge how we operate to make the world a healthier place. We do this with a focus to improve efficiency to reduce supply chain demand, retain and empower our Team, and build stronger communities. Our quality allows us to get it right the first time because our goal is to pave the way for the next generation.

We can always do more:

Because we know that planting trees to rehabilitate our forests is only one way to help the earth heal, we also back our donations with our efforts. We built an energy smart manufacturing process to endure and to save. For example, because of our processes and commitment to sustainability, our product results in honest and verified R-Values ranging from 8.12-13.12. This allows a reduction in wasted energy especially when combined with an energy efficient garage.

Our quality insulation serves to reduce negative energy consumption, and our windload package allows our doors to withstand extreme winds and provide a safer community by enhancing the stability of the garage.

Our products are all low-maintenance resulting in a rather stress free ongoing relationship. They are easy to clean with gentle soap and water or perhaps Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are needed for stubborn spots. All Fimbel doors are made to be naturally unfinished and virtually maintenance free which reduces processes and requirements for harsh chemicals and finishes. When you do choose to finish our products, our water based and eco-friendly paints bring beauty and peace of mind!

All of these decisions are made to support our internal efficiency drive which will reduce our contribution to the landfills and our precious waterways. Our goal is to conserve resources in how we function, how the supply chain is managed, and how the door will continue our efforts when it becomes yours.

In our day to day operations, we make both big and small decisions to continue the efforts of our partnership with One Tree planted. Most notably, we run on solar, and we pass along our extra collected energy. We initiated this many years ago when it became clear we had to do more than manage our robust recycling program, reduce our logistics, and purchase sustainable supplies and goods. With our solar program, we are reminded daily to make good decisions.

About One Tree Planted:

One Tree Planted is a nonprofit on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Their projects span the globe and are done in partnership with local communities and knowledgeable experts to create an impact for nature, people, and wildlife. Reforestation helps to rebuild forests after fires and floods, provide jobs for social impact, and restore biodiversity. Many projects have overlapping objectives, creating a combination of benefits that contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

"The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second-best time is now." – Darrell Putman.

We cannot look at this and say we are late to the game: We must look at this and say what else can we do? We partnered with One Tree Planted to do our part to restore our generous forests and our planet. Together, we hope to make the world more beautiful and long lasting one door and one tree at a time. Condensation and your Garage Door

blog---condensation

Over our 97 years in manufacturing, we have learned that condensation can be an issue in many garages. While many associate the presence of condensation with a manufacturing defect, it is important to understand the issues surrounding condensation and how it may impact your garage and garage door.

What is condensation?

Condensation occurs when the moisture in the air is in contact with a cold surface and water droplets accumulate. It often occurs in a warm garage with high humidity, which is the concentration of water in the air, and a colder surface such as the glass section of your garage door. Essentially, it is characteristic of a warm, humid garage and a cooler garage door surface due to a colder exterior temperature. The lower the outside humidity, the faster the interior humidity will be drawn out causing noticeable droplets. People often assume the windows are leaking, but in reality, it is quite likely condensation.

Why worry?

More garages today are conditioned, often heated, as opposed to garages of the past, so this issue is unfamiliar to most. Understanding the impact of a conditioned garage and the environmental region can preserve the longevity of your door and the garage. Consistent condensation can cause structural damage to various aspects of the garage and the garage door.

Unlike the entry door to the home, the garage door will not maintain the same controlled conditions as the garage holds more humidity and additional variables than the entry door.

Condensation can present itself from a variety of conditions. The geographic and environmental impact can play a part if additional moisture is brought in regularly from wet or snow-covered cars or boats. Use of a humidifier or refrigerator or freezer units can contribute to more condensation. It is not only what is in your garage that can impact the humidity and condensation. It can even present more prominently when the laundry room is located nearby the garage. While there are many other factors to consider such as the ventilation and vapor barriers in the garage, we have solutions!

What to do?

Now that you are educated on how condensation presents itself, we have some suggestions to mitigate the situation. We highly encourage the use of insulated glass on a glass section of your garage door. This decision alone can remedy the issue of condensation on your garage door. The insulated glass helps to balance out the humidity and temperature ratio and reduce condensation.

We also suggest utilizing quality weather-tight seals around the door, wiping snow and rain from cars, managing the appliances and heating systems, and opening the garage doors at intervals to balance out the humidity and temperature. If condensation persists, we suggest reaching out to your home builder or find an HVAC professional with whom to consult.

Why Insulation is Important

blog---insulation-1

Winter is coming! If you are a "Game of Thrones" fan like we are, you might feel extra panic about this statement. But for anyone with a garage, you are likely seeing a to-do list building at that statement! It means we need to clean out the garage of the summer toys and equipment (check out this blog for more on that) and make way for the cars to avoid the winter snow and frigid temperatures here in the North East. It also likely triggers the reminder of increased energy bills and chilly mornings.

Every single Fimbel door we manufacture comes fully insulated because our commitment to the environment and to your satisfaction is built in. The garage can have a large impact on the overall efficiency and comfort of the home. This aspect is often overlooked when considering the home's needs. While every aspect of your garage should be insulted: the walls, the ceiling, and the garage door, we are naturally going to focus on the garage door.

Why Insulate the Garage?

Since 71% of Americans use their garage as the primary entrance to their home, it makes sense that this transition into the home ought to be a comfortable one. Entering the garage with the car, closing the garage door, and then proceeding to the home creates what's called a vestibule effect. This small action of entering the garage and closing the door prior to entering the home allows the unwanted temperature to remain outside. An insulated door allows for a smoother transition from the temperatures of the outdoors and the conditioned climate of the home's interior.

Even if the garage is insulated and drywalled, utilizing an uninsulated garage door will leave the garage cold. Regardless of whether or not you spend a lot of time in your garage, the positive impact of an insulated garage door could potentially add more than 20 degrees to a garage with an outside temperature of 20 degrees. Starting a car that is 40+ degrees is far more appealing than starting a car resting at 20 degrees.

While creature comforts are lovely and certainly appeal to homeowners on those chilly winter mornings, the benefits of an insulated garage and garage door go beyond comfort. With proper insulation homeowners can save up to 20% on their electric bills and truly bring energy efficiency to their home.

What are the Benefits?

If what you have read so far isn't enough to convince you, let's look at some additional benefits of an insulated garage door.

  1. First things first - back to the creature comforts - when a garage door is insulated properly, you should be getting a more aesthetically pleasing interior to the garage. We offer a high impact, pre-finished white interior. We also offer to add our ⅜' Versatex (smooth, solid vinyl) to the interior to bring elegance to your garage.
  2. An insulated door will reduce noise during opening and closing. You shouldn't hear the rattle and transition through the track system as the sections will be more solid and not only prevent but absorb a great deal of residual noise.
  3. While the door is closed, an insulated door will control noise entering and leaving the garage space. The insulation acts as a barrier to capture the sound, so if your kids are forming a rock band, the neighbors will appreciate the reduced noise.
  4. As the technology of our cars and their batteries continue to change, we know that they function better in a climate controlled garage. Starting your morning off right will be easier with an insulated door.
  5. It helps at resale. We know, thanks to Remodeling Magazine's 2020 report, replacing your garage door with a quality high-end door is a slam dunk on the ROI (Return of Investment) at resale with a shocking 94.5%.
  6. The average age of today's US homebuyer is 47. Which means that many homebuyers today are Gen X and Millennial with a tendency toward sustainability and efficiency. Offering this aspect as an element of your 'smart' home adds value.

What Else is Needed?

For the most part, garage door manufacturers use a foam to insulate their garage doors, but this isn't enough. To get the most efficiency out of your garage door, it is important to understand more about R-Value, making the door weather tight, and insulating the glass sections.

R-Value measures the thermal efficiency (resistance to heat flow or temperature conduction of a product). It is used to represent energy efficiency and stands for Resistance Value and is represented in imperial units. It is calculated by the thickness and physical properties of the product. Simply put, a garage door with sufficient R-Value will keep heat inside the garage during winter and cool air inside during summer. Read more in our recent blog on R-Value.

But this isn't enough. Since the garage door will open and close and must remain mobile around all four sides, it is critical to maintain the perimeter weather-stripping and the bottom seal. Additionally, purchasing a door, such as a Fimbel door, with interlocking tongue and groove sections is very valuable. This design reduces the temperature and the weather from penetrating the garage.

The last suggestion we have to maximize your garage efficiency is to utilize insulated glass on any glass sections of your garage door. Failing this will not only cause issues with the temperature control, but it will also likely cause condensation in conditioned garages. For more on this, read our blog on condensation.

Reduce Holiday Stress to Enjoy what Matters Most

blog---holiday-stress

We proudly manufacture a door that allows the low-maintenance and eco-friendly lifestyle for you for years to come (read more about those here)! We also want this same ease and confidence to find you in other aspects of your life and the approaching holiday season! Because we hold our family values above all else, we thought it would be prudent to share with you some tips to reduce holiday stress and increase connections and joy!

First things first - establish what is most important - your personal and family values. If you aren't clear on what these are, make a list of all the 'things' that need to be done and a list of all the values you hold close (this could be your family, your finances, your religion, or anything). Compare your lists and establish the events and expenses (financial, time, and emotional) that align with your true values and true joy. So make your list and check it twice!

Next - set yourself some boundaries. There are so many exciting and/or demanding ways for us to spend our time and energy during the holidays, but the hard truth is that you do not have to do any of them! Okay - don't miss Christmas with your grandparents or slack off on the food drive donations, but you do not have to attend every single thing you're invited to attend or contribute to! Just. Say. No.

Both of these first two steps are to help you avoid conflict internally and externally. When you are clear on what you want to do, the next step is to visualize how you want it to go. In any holiday gathering, there is the risk of conflict between friends and family (we are all usually wound pretty tightly this time of year); however, this year with even more heightened attention on COVID, politics, the economy, and more, our dinner tables may invite some awkward conversations. Get ahead of this by establishing the boundaries for the group and for you as an individual.

Now that you can visualize your calendar, it's time to plan ahead:

  1. Be sure to find time to be quiet and embrace the stillness of the season. Remember the Reason for the Season: it isn't about the quantity of the presents or your presence, but it most assuredly IS the quality of the experience.
  2. Purchase and wrap all presents before the date of the exchange.
  3. Purchase/Prep all food dishes, beverages, or other contributions to the event well in advance - you never know when Costco will be out of cocktail shrimp platters!
  4. Schedule time to exercise and eat well. If you let your gas tank run empty, you may find yourself stuck in the garage.

Finally - in all situations - find the joy! Celebrate the small gifts as much as the large ones. Recognize the lights strung about on the way to work or to run errands. Marvel in the flurries and the twinkling ice. Watch a Hallmark movie and feel (a little cheesy and) warm inside. Recognize the effort in others even when the experience isn't shining. And know that you have given yourself the gift of being present.

It may be odd for a garage door manufacturing company to be doling out holiday stress advice, but we are more than just that. We are people first - people who want to make the most of each day and build strong relationships. We are a company that spans four generations, and we have learned over time that the true value of our business is the work we do with and for our family (which includes our family of origin, our family at work, and our family of partners).

As the holiday approaches, we wish each and everyone of you a stress-free holiday lifestyle that matches the stress-free lifestyle of our doors!

Make your Neighbors Green with Envy: Sustainable Garage Doors

blog-feature---green

As a fourth generation manufacturer we are acutely aware that we have taken from mother nature's bounty time and again. From our origins in manufacturing with wood doors to our time in steel and aluminum and beyond to our current processes that utilize composite materials, we know that we must preserve our precious Earth, and we know we have taken and must give back and continue to do better!

All Fimbel doors are constructed to be low maintenance today and tomorrow which means less stress and less waste! Our materials are innovative and developed with both the end user experience and our environment in mind. Our naturally white doors are made to be unfinished, but we offer a vast range of paints and stains in our unique system using water based and eco-friendly ingredients. Additionally, our headquarters and primary manufacturing plant draws 80% of electricity from solar panels on the roof to reduce our impact on Mother Earth.

Our hard word to reduce waste is not only built into the process but also into the resulting product which means less to the landfill and increases our product longevity. Choosing quality partners and instilling practices into our operations to reduce and conserve are critical to our goals.

Much of this vision is credit to Erin Fimbel, our President (and full disclosure: my sister). When she joined the company, an already existing mindset was converted to practices, innovations, and dedication as she brought our deeply held family values to life. Today she is leading us with clarity and commitment to these goals. "Continuous improvement, metrics-driven quality, and an exceptional customer experience will continue to be at the heart of everything we do." she recently stated. "Our family values are reflected in our commitment to our people, partners, and customers. We pride ourselves on doing what we say we will and providing a sustainable and reliable product that we stand behind."

From a sustainability standpoint, garage doors made of wood simply don't make sense. Wood rots, particularly in wet and humid environments, resulting in more frequent replacements. The garage doors made popular in the mid-20th century were made of steel, but steel rusts in the same places where wood rots. It also dents easily and has an undesirable fake wood grain often stamped into the face. Fortunately, there's a better, more beautiful option with our lineup of garage doors.

We use vinyl because it will not rot or rust, and while vinyl experiences seasonal expansion and contraction, it does so without cracking, and we have engineers our way around the obstacle. We even use vinyl to coat our steel section for the platform of our American legends series. Vinyl offers us the ability to make high-end products with the look and feel of a wood door, but our doors are maintenance-free and can survive in harsh environments, like the coast, where a wood door would deteriorate and standard steel would rust.

Every Fimbel door we make is fully insulated to support the demands of the many uses today for garage spaces. We also use top-grade components such as 11-gauge hinges where the industry standard is the thinner 13-gauge material. These are just a few ways we build in confidence to offer you a long lasting, beautiful door.

Through our partnership with One Tree Planted (501c3) we do our part to restore our generous forests and our planet. It is undeniable that mother nature's bounty has provided for the garage door industry and our family since we began manufacturing overhead doors in the early 1920's. Today, every single door sold by Fimbel Architectural Doors plants a tree through the hard work and commitment of our tree-loving partners. Together, we hope to make the world more beautiful and sustainable one door and one tree at a time #OneDoorOneTree.

We know we cannot change the world with only a door, but we can challenge how we operate in all aspects to make the world a healthier place. We do this with a focus to improve efficiency to reduce supply chain demand, retain and empower our Team, and build stronger communities. Our quality allows us to get it right the first time because our goal is to pave the way for the next generation.

2022 Garage Door Trends

20220114-200709blog-feature---22-Trends

We turned the page from 2021 to 2022 wondering where the time went! Wasn't it just December of 2019 as we looked with anticipation at the new decade? While many things have changed, one thing hasn't: The return on investment for a quality garage door leads the list of home renovation products. This is our FIRST TREND to note for 2022.

Remodeler Magazine's annual Cost vs. Value Report presented Garage Door Replacement in the #1 position 3 of the last 4 years.

  • 2021: 93.8% ROI (#1)
  • 2020: 94.5% ROI (#2 behind manufactured stone veneer)
  • 2019: 97.5% ROI (#1)
  • 2018: 98.3% ROI (#1)

It is clear that the world has finally caught on to what we have known all along (at least since 1924 when our Great-Grandfather started our family business): The garage door is a critical aspect of your home for its incredible function, efficiency, and safety, and it also happens to really boost curb appeal which results in a higher value added to your home.

We know that replacing your garage door is a no-brainer for value, but you can see in this report, the numbers really do add up! Right now is the best time to replace your garage door. Not only do we have the highest quality materials, most diverse design opportunities, we also offer you quality, service, and safety to last.

The SECOND TREND we are seeing taking place in the garage is a dedication to safety and security. Protecting the home with an insulated and energy efficient garage door, will support your sustainability and financial goals. But there is more you can do. Installing the modern openers with smart home technology and applications for security lighting controlled through the smart home will bring further confidence. So be sure to talk with your dealer about the options to enhance the safety and security of the garage door through technology offered.

The THIRD TREND is all about design. While Carriage Style doors lead the pack of desired designs, we are seeing more and more modern and glass doors coming down the pipeline. Known for their sleek, simplistic aesthetics that tend to blend both durability and beauty, homeowners are complementing their homes with bold window designs, geometric attributes, diverse colors, and architectural features in the garage door. This trend is promoted by the increased number of purposes people are finding for their garage space and craving the function and the fashion for their door.

Modern Garage Doors

Euro-Dor Series - Modern Style with staggered lites and custom glass and hand-applied faux stain

Modern garage doors are sleek and alluring with their clean geometric lines, simple proportions, and stylish glass, and they truly add to your home's motif when paired appropriately. This style is descended from international architectural styles, which were developed in the 1920s and 30's and spanned through the latter part of the 1900's with the architectural brilliance of designers like Frank Lloyd Wright.

Due to our process for manufacturing, we are able to add windows and designs to nearly any placement and in any shape you wish to compliment your home as seen in the featured image of a Modern Euro-Dor. Adding glass into your unique preference, whether frosted or otherwise obscured, can control the level of light and privacy in your garage. Selecting the right paint or stain color will complete the look for your updated exterior!

Carriage Style Doors

Roaring Twenties Series - Carriage Style RT11A Hartford Design with decorative hardware and Cashmere factory finish

Carriage style doors are as timeless as Bette Davis and Greta Garbo's smiles and still as beloved today.

In 1923 C.J. Johnson patented the overhead door that quickly replaced swing style doors on garages across the United States welcoming the Model-T Fords to roll right in. The production of doors that swing up and over the head versus out into the driveway changed life at the time, but we held on to the gorgeous appearance.

One of the predominant features found on a classic American carriage style door are the big windows. This highlight of the product is one to truly make it stand out. Where many others use window inserts or have to joint the pieces together, our tops are made of solid, one-piece vinyl material. This means the entire face of the top, or grille as it is referred to, is one quality sheet of carved material with no joints or inserts to truly replicate the look of wood.

You will often find decorative hardware adorning the face of many carriage style doors. Original swing doors would have straps and hinges to secure them to the frame and provide strength to the structure. They would also have handles at the center to allow the doors to be pulled open. Adding this element to today's overhead doors gives authenticity to the door and complements many homes; however, this feature is not required to allow the beauty of a carriage style door to add impact to any home.

Traditional Garage Doors

Euro-Dor Raised Panel Series - Long panel sections with sunray top design and hand applied faux stain

Traditional raised panel doors are iconic in the garage door industry. When the roll-former was introduced to manufacturers across the country, the opportunity to mass produce with repeatability became a reality. You know these doors. You have seen them since you were a kid, and they served the market well for a long time.

The long and short panels offer symmetry and accommodate nearly any opening. The style presents the appearance of the frame and panel construction used by millworkers for cabinets and furniture. The result is the illusion that a floating panel sits inside the frame except we run the look on one full sheet of composite material. Similarly the recessed panel door is equally as timeless showcasing the pronounced frame with a slightly more shallow, or depressed, panel.

Both styles offer a standard look meant to comply with nearly any design style, but if your home or project has personality beyond Traditional, we have many options for you!

Design your Door

Every Fimbel door we make is uniquely crafted for you. Our doors come in a range of styles and price points with capabilities for customizations to satisfy your design desires. Using multiple design patents with materials and processes engineered for beauty and durability, we offer you more.

It starts with the material and the construction.

  • Both of these options are constructed using a wood frame, insulation, vinyl backcover, and the composite material on the face. This leaves the complete section encased in protective, durable material that is engineered to last.
This material is then insulated with a vinyl backcover for sustainability.

Fimbel Finishing

As you dream of your door coming to life, don't forget to consider your options. The color trends for '22 are calling for warm neutrals, moody blacks and charcoals, and diverse greens, and we can do it all.

To read more about it, enjoy this blog.

Before you Commit

A few things to consider as you finalize your color decision (from our previous Blog called "Opening Doors to Color Your World"):

  1. Your entry door is the focal point of your home. You do not have to match it! Do your best to complement it. Focus on matching the quality and design not the color.
  2. The garage door color works best on many homes when it is coordinated to the details of the home: the siding, the windows, the trim.
  3. If the overall design of the home is unique, we invite to think beyond standard doors and make it your own.
  4. While the garage can consume 30% of a home's frontage, the garage door should add to the overall feel - not stick out like a sore thumb. We offer a lot of options to make it unique without making it outlandish!
  5. Be sure you understand the material of the garage door. We know that vinyl can respond to extreme temperatures unfavorably when in dark colors. Be sure you have the right paint product on the right material (again, no worries here for us, because we offer you more).
  6. If you cannot decide on a color, a natural white finish is a tried and true solution! With our product and our ability to offer you the DIY kits, so you can change your mind down the road.
  7. Do you plan to sell your home anytime soon? If so, consider what a potential buyer might want for their garage door! In this case, purchasing a garage door with the after factory option of our DIY kits may be the solution.

Let's do it!

  • You will not find plastic inserts creating the design.

What you will NOT find makes your life more durable and more beautiful! To get a closer look at what's offered, we share a PDF at the end of the blog to provide visuals, so read on to get to know our doors (and our company) from the inside out!

You can choose from either the Traditional or Euro style top (shown below) as well as a C-profile or a V-profile (shown below) to complement the details of your home! While we offer a vast library of standard designs from carriage to traditional to modern, we don't stop there!

One with an arch top and 16 lites/windows (left) speaks to the traditional appearance of the home. The open lites of the (right), with the complementary transom, shines with a modern edge. These two literally live beside each other, are built from the same model door, and have been individually selected to complete the varied appearance of the exteriors. Imagine how this style could complement your home with the right design!

Euro-Dor Series - EU505-Athens (left) with 32” Euro top (16 lites) and EU504-Brussels (right) with 26” Custom top (2 lites)

At Fimbel ADS, much like at Burger King, you can have it 'your way'! We pride ourselves on offering you more in your garage door, and want to inspire you to think beyond the traditional and carriage style designs of many doors today and explore a door with a modern twist!

Euro-Dor Series - Modern with horizontal v-grooves, rectangle lites, custom glass, and faux stain.

Typically window sections will be designed and installed at the top of the door, but there is no limit to where you can add the windows or the window section! In the image below, the double window section adds to the farmhouse feel of the home!

Euro-Dor Series - Santorini EU18S with double window section with custom, open lites.

American Legends Series - McCormick LV15A with custom arch top.
Roaring Twenties Series - Detroit RT11S with Traditional style top and custom arches.

Not only does a window section add to the overall design of the door, adding this element will add natural light to your garage!

Why Replace the Garage Door

We manufacture our doors using smooth, solid Versatex for our unfinished doors and innovative, durable Tricoya for our factory finished products. For the factory finished doors, we use AquaSurTech paint products for not only their quality finish but their durability and commitment to the planet. We are pleased to offer this to you in virtually any custom color and faux stain.

Fimbel doors offer you a low-maintenance lifestyle. The clean appearance of the door should last for years to come with a gentle clean with mild soap and water. No harsh abrasives or undue elbow grease necessary.

Fimbel doors are manufactured to be safety first. You, your family, your home, and your belongings will rest safely behind our door. Our doors are engineered for durability! We know that poorly fitted doors are not only unsightly but also allow unwanted openings. Since we can match nearly any opening, weather, burglars, and bugs will not have access to your home through the garage door, and our energy efficient construction allows you to conserve on financial costs and increase comfort!

Let's do it!

You will not find a more durable, customizable, and sustainable door in the garage door industry.Using our one piece construction method to eliminate the gaps at joints and unsightly plastic inserts of other door models, our interior grille option enhances the character and depth of the top section!

We pride ourselves on the ability to offer you solutions! We offer everything from

creative designs to funky features to matching uneven floors and odd heights and widths. Whether it is aligning with the requests of the local historical society, fulfilling a technical

or design challenge, or simply satisfying a whim, we are enthusiastic about taking on your vision and building to your one-of-a-kind requirements!

The Technical Side of Beauty

20220202-170217blog---finish-feature-1

We talk a lot about our factory finish. We talk about the aesthetics and the application and the lasting satisfaction, but today we will dig a little deeper into the technical side of beauty. Beyond the artisan craftsmanship to apply the color into what's beneath the surface, and why does it matter?

If you want to skip the details and head right to the final result, you're welcome to head back to our blog posts from September with the nuts and bolts of our factory finish or our six steps to designing your door, but if you want to dig in further, stick around!

Fimbel Factory Finish is exclusively applied by a skilled and trained team of finishers utilizing a four-layer proprietary process. The result is the highest quality finish in the garage door industry and that of architectural paints and applications. Additionally - we choose products and partners with a shared passion for preserving Mother Earth, and our paint operations support our vision for a cleaner, greener world!

We use AquaSurTech D200 High Performance Paint system that has been thoroughly tested and is the best paint on the market for our applications. This is an exterior waterborne/water based coating system designed for sustainability and aesthetics and is considered non-hazardous by EPA standards. D200 exceeds all environmental and performance standards. To look further into their materials and commitments to sustainability, find their website here.

Some of the highlights of D200 go beyond its beautiful surface. It is extremely fast air dry and quick clean up offers efficient processes for in-factory and DIY finishing. It utilizes superior technology by providing a molecular bond and has exceptional heat reflectance along with long term color/gloss retention. It is formulated with heat reflective pigments to minimize heat gain for dark colors allowing for the vast color options in our palette regardless of exposure. The weather resistance of D200 doubles that of other paints as it is solar reflective and has high resistance to UV, salt, and other environmental factors. It also provides stone, chip, and grit erosion resistance.

The finishing program offers myriad options to satisfy the needs of your project. From solid colors covering the entire door or perhaps used in a two-tone application, we offer custom color matching in addition to our extensive standard offerings.

The magic of this paint system is the versatility allowing us to create our faux stain! Using a two part process of the same paint we use to coat our doors, our team of Artisans use their trained

hands to apply first the grain design and then the top coat offering the final overall richness of color. The result of this process allows us to increase grain depth or decrease it as needed as well as custom color match to your desired finish.

Highlights of our Finishing System:

  • Using our application, we deliver a cabinet-like finish
  • Long lasting for continued satisfaction
  • Custom color matching available
  • Water-based coating
  • Safe, odorless, and non-toxic
  • Passes test requirements for AAMA615 (Organic Coatings on Plastic Substrates)
  • Low heat absorption due to heat reflectant pigments
  • Excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance
  • Excellent elasticity can withstand thermal expansion
  • Excellent impact resistance
  • Low VOC
  • Non-flammable
  • Lead and chromate free

In addition to all of this, we offer a reliable and lasting 10 year factory finish warranty that covers the longevity and durability of the products we craft. We proudly offer a door with a low-maintenance lifestyle, but it is important that the doors are properly maintained to be covered under normal conditions from peeling, cracking, blistering, or significant ultraviolet discoloration.

Additionally, we offer a 3 year application warranty which applies to the paint or stain application and any failures as a result of the application process. Additionally, aligning with our 3 year limited door warranty, it covers any other commercial defects in material and workmanship.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to quality, safety, and satisfaction, so you can count on us to provide the right door with the right finish for you and Mother Earth. For more details and to take a peek at our standard paint and stain offerings, visit our website at www.fimbelads.com.
